Was just watching P.I. 2000 500cc the other night.

Barros, Biaggi, McCoy, Rossi and Capi in a tight, race-long battle.

Rossi and Biaggi shaking hands?!  WTF!?

I've accumulated ~500GB of MotoGP and SBK vids,  (To be sure, not anywhere near all are 'classic' races.)

Send me a portable hard drive an I'll load ya up.  Heck, maybe we could pass it around - I think Pigeon and a few others have outrageous collections.

2001 is very good as well. As I remember Rossi and Barros's front and rear tyre touch at 170mph on the Gardner straight - you can see the smoke from the overhead Wescam. Very close finish between Max and Vale. Haga in the mix too on the WCM Yam.

5 in a row? are we talking ben "i've done well for only half a season but my bike looked awesome" bostrom?

anybody mentioned jerez 96 already? salzburgring doohan vs criville was dope too.

question for arrabi, i remember that doohan and a teammate(okada? can't remember tbh ,was too young...) highsided in the exact same corner at the exact same time. looked ridicolous.  do you remember which year/gp that was? ring in the mid 90s is all i'm sure of

Actually, wasn't that by virtue of you buying it? Apologies, I should mail it to you.

Can't believe this has only just dawned on me even though it was so glaringly obvious. You're referring the 5 in a row in '01 aren't you, which is conspicuously absent from my archives.

Don't bother mailing it, won't play in US-spec DVD player.Consider it two weeks' rent.

Surprised it took you so long.

Watch your mouth, Herr Cliche. Because that bike and the accompanying Alpinestars looked seriously ....... awesome. (None of my smileys appear to work, but be sure to take this in the correct way.)

Were you an encyclopaedia salesman?

It always stuns me the brilliance of ......s who try and suggest that we should seek information only from books, or perhaps just do a 5 year degree and only go off what we learn in that time, or even get our immense knowledge from magazines like you Arab, or are you suggesting that you have acquired your brilliance first hand?

What search engine is the "cool" one Arab?

Actually it just dawned on me that I didn't use google to find those ........ it was even simpler ......... youtube has its own search ( as illegal as that would be for the "magazine reference database" crew like yourself )

Raw nerve once again Barry? And once again you take the bait.

Who mentioned books and magazines? Certainly it's of great value being well read - I've found that it enhances and contextualises experience as well as informing it. But there you see is the key word - experience. Some of us choose to step out from bejhind the keyboard whilst others are content to ........ from behind and feign it.

I appears contrary to your claims the only engine you fire up on a regular basis is your search engine. Anyone could have Googled 'Sturmey Archer' or 'Double Highside' Barry - it's genuinely recalling that info or actually having lived it that is so important. You clearly googled Sturmey Archer on the other thread because you hadn't got a clue what it was - in so doing discovered we'd spelt it wrongly - then pulled us up on our spelling while mis-spelling something yourself in the same thread. Classic Barry, classic Google Merchant - so easy to spot. You hate Rog and I because several years ago we called your ........ and called you as the internet bullshitter you are. Books? Yeah, I'd recommend reading.Try it some time.

Now shut the .... up, man up for once and step up and take your award Captain Google.

Fo many years I suspected that this was staged. Finally ascertained this was indeed the case and that following a pre race agreement Sheene and KR only raced each other for the final four laps or so. What is so amusing about Bazza flipping the bird is Murray Walkers assertion that he was waving at Kenny.

x14, I encourage you to research and order some DVDs from Duke covering the 500cc golden era. Still have many old VHS recordings in the attic.

"...and Sheene is waving at Roberts!"  (I'm old enough to remember this from watching the race live on TV).  Strictly speaking Bazza gave Roberts the 'V' sign, which is quintessentially British.  IIRC isn't this supposed to have originated from the Battle of Agincourt?

did  i say anything different ?:)

Ha, no. Say what you will about the Boz, but the stunning livery of that bike should absolve him from any criticism for ever and ever. In all seriousness, I think he was a very talented but mercurial rider in his younger days. When his head was right, he proved that even the likes of Edwards and Bayliss couldn't keep up. (I'll concede that 2001 also happened to be a very strong year for Dunlop, but I'll also point out that the likes of Corser and Hodgson weren't regularly among the front runners, either.) The problem for Ben in those days, in my opinion, is that it seemed as though he was never focused on the racing. I remember reading a column he penned for Racer back in 2001 or 2002 in which he detailed climbing in the Mediterranean solo, subsequently got himself stuck, and it wasn't until the next day when he missed a sponsor commitment or other such team function, and a member of his crew pieced it together to come to the conclusion that he was probably dead at the base of an outcropping in Sardinia. Of course he wasn't, and the crew found him and got him down, and he was fine. And then there was the lost season of 2000, and while he may not have pulled a Hopkins and missed a practice session because of a nightmarish hangover (at least not that we know of), he was a known club rat.

From what I gather, the focus came to him when he came back stateside (although he was still climbing, surfing, and cycling pretty regularly), but I think by that point the mercurial talent that landed him a factory Ducati in World Supers had deserted him.

I now apologize for this Bostrom monologue no one asked for.

There is a lovely story that it originated from the archers. When captured, the enemy would cut off their index and middle finger to prevent them from ever being able to use a bow again. The gesture was supposed to be the archers showing defiance, and that they still have said digits and their arrows would blot out the sun!

Great story, sadly it's all bollocks.

Probably commensurate to the amount of times we've discussed the L&M Ducati and Ben's fall form grace.

His form was also in part due to the Dunlop's - which he exploited extremely well. Anyway, I'm more of a fanboy than you having made the pilgrimage to Redding!!!

And what of the mystery of Tory? Both Ben and Eric regularly claimed that he had more natural talent than the both of them combined. (I think we've probably had lengthy discussions about this as well).

Dammit, I don't want to go to Redding. I've never heard anything positive about that place. I also can't have someone challenging my Boz Fanboy status. If what those two say is true, watching Tory would've been a pleasure. I vaguely recall reading something about him being a recluse, and I want to say that even Ben and Eric don't see him that frequently. (This could be utter bollocks, but I thought I'd read that somewhere.)

Oh now I see why Arab. mixed up the Sturmey Archer thing ......... that is indeed a "stern" way to treat an archer, and would indeed stick in the drink addled drug infused brit. psyche.

Off season is fun .
