So I'm bored and insomniatic... amused myself by seeing what my money could buy me in Toronto if I wanted to start a cheap bike collection with bikes for a wide variety of uses today. Here's my list. See if you can beat it in your area.

1. Long Hauler - 1985 Yamaha Venture Royale - 33,000km - $2000

For Toronto to Vancouver to see my daughter, or going to COTA for a meet-up!

2, Daily Rider - 2002 Kawasaki Ninja 600 - 10,000km - $2500

Sport Tourer/Commuter

3. Track Bike - 2001 Ducati SS750 - $2700

Fun to ride AND work on!

4. Dirt Bike - 2005 CRF450 - $2300

Woops and backcountry touring

5. Hauler - 1997 AWD Chevy Astro Van - 105,000km - $3500

Need something to haul the toys and sleep in!

$13,000CDN all in!! ($13,000US, $12,500AUS, 8,000GRB, 10,000EUR)

I'm already thinking of fantasy mods for my fantasy fleet!

Cool!

I might add a "classic" for charity rides and boulevard/beach road cruisin'!! Something like:

6. Boulevard Classic - 1978 Honda CB550 - 46,000km - $2500 (overpriced...?)

Relaxed classic standard.

Slim pickings my way. I searched solely around Cairns and district and for 12,5oo beans I could have

YZ 426 2000 model, $2,200.00 http://imgc.classistatic.com/cps/blnc/121201/538r1/2358fhe_20.jpeg

R80 BMW 95,000kms 88 model $2,775 http://imgc.classistatic.com/cps/blnc/121230/092r1/7047j93_20.jpeg

and a 2001 TL1000R 45,000 k's young. $5,700 http://imgc.classistatic.com/cps/blnc/130101/768r1/151458m_20.jpeg

As an alternative toy I have found this Ocean Kayak for $1000 http://imgc.classistatic.com/cps/blnc/130112/445r1/8471c0b_20.jpeg

Total $11,675. I still have $825 for tinkering around with the new additions.

Thanks Mick. good game.

I like the kayak. Also the R80

If I stay awake long enough (I've taken the "Z" pill) I'll have a play.

Question BWB - you do a bit of kayaking?

I paddle race skis, I have 3 of the bloody things, the favourite being a dolphin dominator http://www.thegearshed.com/gear/gear_2.php?ad_id=229

You wouldn't pick it but the bloody Dolphin site is playing up. meh!

Hmmm, I'm getting a bigger bang for my buck in Toronto, methinks. I like that I can get a AWD utility vehicle for hauling people and stuff too... and its handy in february in Toronto!!

Sometimes, rarely. been out a few times up here, Cape Tribulation and around Cooktown. Also go out for an occasional stand up paddle either ocean or cruising the rivers.

Bah, just give me those in this ad http://advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=20496356&postcount=106

I had one of these... a brand new '84. I bought it as a daily rider (over a Honda 750 Nighthawk) 'cause my RZ350 had a penchant for blowing up (I was experimenting with the RZ and by '86 it was a semi-reliable track bike...).

Why dream!?? you can be cheap like me in real life!!

If I went through the exercise I would have a fleet of 150cc step-through's and a monkey bike - bikes are just ridiculous money here... like an 883 Sportster for US$28,000!

Second-hand is junkyard - but at new bike prices. If they are selling it, there is usually a reason.

I got my bikes in under the 'emigrant' scheme - but have to take them back with me. Silly thing is, the one bike we left behind (Piaggio MP3) would have been the best of the lot over here.

Same, same in Thailand... That's why I was playing in Toronto!!
