Sep 09, 2006
From a press release issued by Mark Hamilton:
New York based Celtic Racing have dispensed with the services of Irish Superbike Champion Alastair Seeley and will field former GP rider Chaz Davies in the Formula Xtreme and Supersport races at the AMA finale at Mid-Ohio.
Seeley rode for Celtic Racing at five AMA events this year with best results of ninth in the Daytona Supersport race and ninth in the Road America FX race. However, the team felt the 26-year-old was not the man to spearhead their effort in 2007 and wanted to look at a fresh option at Mid-Ohio.
After a recommendation from Jeremy McWilliams, Celtic Racing offered 19-year-old Chaz Davies their Yamaha R6 machinery for the Mid-Ohio event and everyone is very excited about the prospect of the former 125 and 250 GP runner making his first apperance on American soil.
Davies is from Birmingham, England, and rode in the 125GP world championship in 2002 (aged just 15 years) and then had three full season in the 250GP world championships, with a best year of 2004 when he finished 8th at Brno, 9th in Malaysia and 6th in Australia and Valencia.
Celtic Racing owner Barry Gilsenan commented: "Things have not worked out for Chaz on the GP front in 2006 and he has been temporarily sidelined. At only 19-years-old, that should not be the case and we decided he should be back in action. He has a lot of talent, top ten GP finishes prove that, and though his four-stroke experience is minimal, I'm confident he will quickly adapt to our 600 machines."
