Capirossi: Real men go road racing, MotoGP for girls

MotoGP legend Loris Capirossi is heading to the Isle of Man TT – but will only experience the iconic Mountain Circuit from a car, he insists
Suzuki MotoGP star Loris Capirossi has quipped that road racing is for the sport's 'real men' - and that the premier class in which he has competed in twelve seasons since 1995 is only 'for girls'.

The three-time world champion said he hopes to be in the Isle of Man for this year's TT, which runs from 29 May to 11 June, to help Suzuki mark 50 years of competition.

Speaking at the star-studded Adelaide Racer Awards in Belfast, Capirossi admitted his admiration of road racers and quipped, by comparison, that he is 'really a girl'.

“Compared to what you guys do I am really a girl, you are real men,” the Italian joked. “I am 100 per cent not thinking about ever going road racing!

“I hope to be in the Isle of Man during TT week to help celebrate Suzuki's 50 years in road racing, but I will be going round in a car!”

Capirossi was guest of honour at the awards ceremony, which was also attended by stars past and present from road racing, World Superbikes, World Supersport, British Superbikes and more.

In addition to handing out some of the evening's accolades, the 36-year-old was himself presented with the Adelaide Lifetime Achievement Award.

Other stars whose accomplishments were officially recognised on the night included 2009 World Supersport Champion Cal Crutchlow, top British Superbike rookie Ian Lowry, World Superbike race-winner Jonathan Rea, British Supersport Champion Steve Plater, leading road racer Ryan Farquhar and World Supersport runner-up Eugene Laverty, who was named Irish Motorcyclist of the Year.

Now that I'd like to see, I bet he manages to get a ride round on a bike though.

I've always wondered how the motogp guys would do in Isle of Mann and vise versa. The Isle of Mann guys i feel like have more balls than skill. (not saying that they arent good)

Hahaha, I love Capirossi. Great humor with an element of truth. I've been seeing the Isle of MAN on HD this year. Seriously, its INSANE!

i love the onboard stuff from the Island it makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck

I expect the first line in the conditions section of his contract says no Isle of Mann racing. That is just death defying. One day I will venture across the pond and spend a few weeks there but I'll be a spectator also. Unless I rent a bike and ride around the circuit...just to see the layout you understand.

I can see it all now....

Yeah, way cool. Watching the wobbles coming down in that super slow motion is great.

Does HD theater do anything but re-runs? We'll be watching the '09 event three years from now!

Isle of Man is nuts......but the street circuit at Macau would have to be the silliest, ballsious and outright insane road racing in the world

I wonder if like Rossi, capirossi will arrive in a private jet and have a police escort to the course ? Think not.
What would be cool would to see one of the GP bikes do a lap, touring lap.

Dion and the IOM boys and I have had this discussion and agreed to disagree!! They're both nuts and test the rider to the Nth degree - in different ways!!
