Does anyone else find it odd that Ducati supposedly had Capirossi for life but he seems to be in contract negotiations for next year? That tells me that Loris never actually agreed to stay there for the rest of his career. What's going on?
His contract ends this year, and Loris is unhappy with his salary, he wants more more money! If Ducati aren't willing to pay, he might leave. IMO he'll stay and Ducati will pay.
In the british 'weekly comic' (aka motor cycle news) there was a story saying Loris was staying at Ducati until he stops riding then he's going to be their ambassador. So we thought he had signed a contract proving this but it appears he hasn't and is still free to go where he pleases.
I think MCN ment that after his racing days, he has a job for life working for the team, hence why he still might be in a position to negociate a contract for 07. If he doesnt get a ride (and I cant see why!) with Ducati, then I'm sure thats when the job for life will come into play and we might well see Loris in management, or quite likley some sort of PR role......he's a good chap Loris and always comes across on the TV as a nice bloke - so hopefully when its time to hang up his wheels (and after Sundays performance, when will that be!!?) it would be good to see him working for the team.
Going OT now, even though MCN is giving more & more coverage, I cant help thinking that half the stuff they swill out is pure BS. Remember when they printed about Hodgeson riding a D'antin @ Donny.....big MCN exclusive....well I was reading a column of his in racer magazine and he said his dad called with the story and Hodgeson hadnt even thought about racing, nevermind been approached to ride!!
Loris will stay for sure, he'd be foolish to leave and they'd be foolish to let him go, they'll sort out the money side of things and pay him what he's worth. I really think sete is gonna stay with the team next year too, be good to see him get a decent run at it as well, the guy deserves a break.
I've always said Ben that MCN are full of it a lot of the time. Gotta fill those column inches.
do contracts even mean anything in this day and age? take JB for an extreme example buying his way out of his or footballers who go on strike to get a transfer.
I haven't seen anything like Jenson or the footballers in motorcycle racing. The closest thing I've seen is a rider and team splitting because they don't get along (Scott Smart/Rizla Suzuki BSB) or lack of results (Max Neukrichner/Pedercini Ducati). I don't think motorcycle racing has reached the contract confusion stage that Formula 1 has.
There's no confusion, JB had a contract and he had to pay Frank Williams a .... load of money to buy his freedom, that contract was watertight, Williams could have chosen to force JB to drive for him, but wisely he chose the money.
Its coming the ends of his career. I think he should stay. I guess the problem may be money 'coz he cant continue his career anymore and he cant earn money too .Its coming end of the road for old wolf. Maybe we will watch his last session next year

Maybe so, but he just kicked the worlds butt at Brno!! & I wouldnt think Loris is short of money
Is it starting to look like Ducati will keep Gibbers? Just when I was giving up hope. Another year could mean a return to for, then again, it might not.
