Hey guys,

More and more im debating on whether or not to find a cheap 70s honda cb450-500 and slowly turn it into a nice clean cafe racer....has anyone on here done this?

Advice, pics, comments, whatever.

thanks

I have a 75 Honda 400 supersport sitting in my dads garage waiting for me to get back to the US and make a project out of it. Maybe next summer!

My favorite Honda of all time, six speeds, smooth as .... and will eat up her bigger sisters in the twisties.

If you find a late model 450 go for it !! If you find a Bomber that would be a crime. Stay away from the 500T, it was a vibrating dog. The 500/4 is IMHO the best balance of availability, price and maneuverability. Like the 400/4 in the hands of a skilled pilot will eat up a 750 on a technical road but far more available than the 400.

Have you been to sohc4.com ? Loads of amazing bikes and extremely knowledgable people.

no i havent...thanks bluegreen i will def. be checking this out.

This little project of mine may be a bit delayed for a few months...just got a new apt that is a bit more expensive so my funds are a bit tied up. ...... security deposits.

Too many damn Honda`s......cafe a flat twin Beemer.

I'm with you! I hated Honda 4s when they were new - horrible handling pieces of road sluggery. Why reminisce over something that wasn't great to start with?

Guzzi big-blocks and BMW R90/R100s make awesome cafe projects. You can get off-the-shelf tanks and seat combos, the rest is just grafting and your design.

They will go well, handle great and parts are easy to come by.

I've only got one pic of my last Guzzi cafe... I will try and dig it out.

I am watching this thread with both envy and anticipation when my medical dramas finally end I am going to use the salvageable bits of my old bike on a cafe racer.

It will be one of those mentally healing things, like my old bike still lives.

Bluegreen's bike is gorgeous as is that BMW. As are all well set up cafe racers.

Bluegreens thread on SOHC4.com is simply astonishing.

D'oh.

Humble ones MD.

I do take a lot of medication....Also, and this is probably a bit creepy for bluegreen, I have it saved in my favs and I am sort of Internet stalking his bike (not him just his bike). Although he did build it...

Edit 1: You would have to agree that is a work of pure, unbelievably attractive super superfluous superlative art.
