Reigning British Superbike champion Josh Brookes and former MotoGP rider Karel Abraham are set to switch to the World Superbike grid in 2016 with the new Milwaukee BMW team.

Multiple BSB championship winners Shaun Muir Racing has signed a three-year title sponsorship deal with Milwaukee Power Tools as it prepares to step up to WSBK next season with BMW. The agreement comes after lengthy negotiations with several manufacturers which resulted in SMR parting company with Yamaha to start a new partnership with BMW.

Brookes and Abraham will challenge on BMW S1000RRs built by SMR and it is understood the team will receive technical support from BMW Motorrad Motorsport on the engine and electronics, while the team will be responsible for development and organising the sporting and logistical aspects in an international series.

Team principal Shaun Muir says he's delighted with the deal it has secured with Milwaukee and BMW which has ultimately enabled him to achieve the long-term goal of stepping up from BSB and into WSBK.

“As a team, the support and enthusiasm shown by BMW Motorrad Motorsport was hugely confidence-building,” Muir said. “They know exactly what we need to be competitive and the level of backing has made our decision to join them much easier.

“I am incredibly impressed with the amount of technical support we will have and it bodes well for a great debut season in World Superbikes.”

All the best to them both, though I'm not a fan of Brookes.

What's the bet Brno will be back on the WSBK calendar in 2017?
