British Superbike - rear brake lever???

I've got a couple pics from the Stobart website of their British Superbike team that I use in my desktop screensaver. Anyway, while watching the screensaver show, a picture of the right side of the bike was being shown and I noticed that there was no rear brake lever, just a peg for the right foot. The pics are huge so I can clearly see it's not there.
I really don't follow BSB but I thought the pics were nice and clear (and safe) for use on my desktop. For those who know, where's the rear brake control?

Maybe they don't have 1? Or it may be on the other foot as he may be a left-footed rider?

Some riders control the rear brake with their left hand, so they have a lever there (under the clutch).

IIRC Haga does it this way.

I didn't know many riders did that. The only rider I know who did it for some time was Mick Doohan.

Off topic - but I love the Stobart bikes, probably because I love stobart trucks! Eddie Stobarts are a trucking instution in the UK, you cant travel on a major motorway without spotting an "Eddie"! They even have a large an club, check out:

Each truck has women's name on the cab......man I'd love to be a Stobart truck driver!! (I wanted to be a truck driver when I was young!).

Yeah it'll be a thumb operated rear brake. I thought you guys knew a bit about bikes?

Like myself and richo said before, I thought that was a Doohan thing because his leg was so messed up. I didn't know other riders do it as well. I feel rather dumb.

Enough to know a thumb operated rear brake is bloody unusual and in reality very rare

True, Doohan started it but due to the other riders thinking it gave him an advantage most of them tried it. (Remember when he went back to the screamer engine and Criville copied him?). If you look at the bikes on the grid next week you'll be surprised how many people use it, it's not rare at all.

I wouldn't have thought it would be an advantage personally, I think you'd probably have more control with your foot.. thats just my opinion though

I think the advantage of a thumb operated rear brake, is that you can still use your weight on ur right foot, to help turn the bike, whilst braking.... Well that's what i reckon, might not be bloomin right mind you LOL

I've seen thumb controled rear brakes even here up north. Thumb control does seem to give an added control. On a morning warm up I watched before a race, a guy were wildly applauded as he came back from the track. Why? the track was damp and drying and as he realized he had burned that rain tire anyway he started entertaining with slides into the chicane, and believe me, it was entertaining. They got pretty wild, sliding wide all the way to the apex, but never out of control, thanks to the thumb control acording to the rider.
