We're now heading to a massive battle in Europe now. It looks like Bridgestone have the upperhand against Michelin. They do have best rider out there (Rossi & Stoner).
In China & Mugello, Pedrosa (Michelin) managed to stay with the Bridgestone runners ( Rossi & Stoner) until about 3 last lap he was left to dead by both of them. Wasn't it the tires ?
It happened almost exactly last season, while early in the race both are even until the mid-end race the French tires began to wears off.
Michelin raised their funds about 40%. But can they slash back this year.
Personally I think Bridgestone is gonna very hard to beat. They do have Rossi as their development rider.

Bridgestone is gonna very hard to beat, but I think Stoner will bounce back.
Rossi can't afford to sleep or 2006 will happening again....

They had the winner last year but as to whether they were the "far" better tyre, that has been discussed to death. With Rossi, and now Stoner looking something like himself (from last year), bridgestone look hard to beat.

it's a nice battle this year, but it is hard to judge which tyre is best, there are too many other factors involved, like the rider skill and how well they have set the bike up. last year it was clear that bridgestone were the superior tyre.
its easy to forget the reason Rossi left Michelin was not just because they were slower but because he had so many tyre failures, which cost him in 2006.
i think Bridgestone still have a slight edge but michelin have closed the gap for sure, i gues Rossi Vs Lorenzo is the best way to judge it, although i think rossi would still be quicker than gorge if they were on same tyres. i think Rossi would still be leading the championship if he was on the Michelins, but the last two races Bridgestone seemed to have been better than the Michelin towards the end of the race, Stoner Rossi and de angelis were all really strong towards end of race and some of the michelin runners were fading.

It looks pretty equal this year, but a few key races aside i don't think the difference was especially large last season either. Either way the war is great to watch, i've missed this in F1.

If anything it'll make them better given him and JB's development skills.

you mean top 4 & the other 2 are on michelins.

If your good enough this season you could win on either tyre... they are both good this year so far.

Bridgestone is gonna do well with Rossi and Stoner winning races.

Pedrosa doesn't win enough unless he gets away from the pack and Lorenzo is now injured.

Nobody else counts.

Actually Lorenzo is now mostly healed.

Mmmm, Michelin tyres had an occasional habit of falling apart in both 2006 & 2007. Don't recall any similar Bridgestone failures, excepting of course Nakano's huge failure at 180mph, but that was Mugello 2004.

I didn't say the tyres were identical

Actually, effectively you did...

In answer to this :

Implication: if you were a good enough rider, which tyre manufacturer you used in 2006 and 2007 shouldn't have stopped you winning.

For certain races in 2006 & 2007 I disagree. Even God can't win on a chunked tyre.

In all the events so far in 2008 both manufacturers seem to have brought equivalently capable tyres. This is a different scenario to 2006/2007.
