BMW electronics package

It sounds like BMW are finally going to start 'LOOKING' at alternatives to their in-house electronics package for the 2012 WSBK S1000RR.

Haslam and Melandri will test a new Magneti Marelli system at Jerez this month. From what I gather, they will also use a team of dedicated Marelli technicians from the previous Factory Yamaha and Alstare Suzuki teams to assess the issues BMW are currently having with their own package, or instigate a switch to Marelli for 2012.

We did say in an earlier thread, that BMW as a team could be the best funded team in the WSBK paddock due to the strength of the BMW business as a whole. We also know that they were very commiitted to continue developing their in-house electronics package.

Both Haslam and Melandri stipulated as part of their new deals, that they wanted certain electronics specialists ( Bailly, Ferro and Gadda ) who they have worked with before to add pace to the development of the BMW package, or to assist in a switch to an alternative.

It finally appears that BMW may not be able to wait much longer to get their in-house stuff sorted. They need to start winning and they now have two riders which are very capable of that.

In the last few rounds, we have seen what an improved electronics package can do for a bike which was previously struggling.... Johnny Rea and the Ten Kate team

If the Marelli system is the best option, I just hope BMW can swallow a bit of pride and make the switch, otherwise, it could be another sad season for the team.

GO HASLAM !!!!!!!

i have no doubt that bmw will be title contenders if they get their electronics fixed

it's amazing they wanted to continue with their system for so long, their system on the road bikes is already one of the best and is in no way related to the system used in racing

wonder how many millions went down the toilet since 2009,just for the electronics package.stupid wsbk rules and stubborn decision making by bmw..

Good news Wilski. I told you I wanted those Germans to seek out the Italian electronics, and I'm happy they finally are doing it. No shame in that, as they need to start posting results while they perhaps allow their test riders to develop in house electronics. Why have two of the best riders in the world (bar no series) and have them languish mid pack? Its a waste of talent and career.

Well this lack of progress with their own package has been annoying for both you and me Compa hasn't it. They want to benchmark their electronics and the Marelli system and see where the BMW issues lie.

They are still not committing to moving away from their own electronics, but hopefully, the Marelli system we be fit for purpose and force BMW's hand !!!!!!
