Lance Armstrong.... he has only one NUT.

It has to be haga on the R7, awesome passes and wild lines, phillip island '98 on the old yzf750 sticks in my mind as the first time I saw him race, holding the old 'bus' yzf up on his knee for the second half of the race. Favourite style has to be Doohan, pushing the bike down with his weight over the front, you gotta love Doohan's style, unique. Of the current guys, the one who really needs those elbow sliders is Hopkins, one of the most naturally talented guys out there, fast on anything. I hope the Suzuki is good this year.

Totally agree. I hadn't really noticed Elias that much (overshadowed by Melandri), but in Estoril my heart was broken....... but then Elias put on such a beautiful show of guts and desperate determination that made me an instant fan. I still have the image burned into my mindseye when he overtook both Rossi and Roberts at the end of the straight, while the commentator was still focusing on who would win the braking duel between Rossi and Roberts, then like a bat out of hell, Elias comes motoring through like a dis-railed freight train and beats them both to the turn. All the while sliding and backing it in, dicing with Rossi and even making him look back like saying (WTF/What The Fu.....k). That was true poetry in motion. And if that wasn't enough, on the last turn Elias glues himself to the back tire of Rossi's bike only to sling-shot himself past and win at the line; .002. Damn that was great.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Ooost @ May 19 2005, 05:55 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Me being the American I am I love the guys who can back it in, like Nicky Hayden. I don't think there is anything more exciting that watching riders slide under breaking and bring it back in line. Good stuff.

What can I say except you are absolutely right. If you ever want to see where this comes from, check out some dirt track racing at the Springfield Mile. It had been thought of as impossible, but this style was brought to MotoGP by the Americans in the 80s.

Talking about impossible lean angles, I've seen Aaron Yates elbow dragging aroun Road America and VIR.

Rossi- Smooth AND aggressive, genius at work.

You said it all really.............................

Nice to dig up an old thread once in a while..

Schwantz his do or die buckeroo style was a Joy to behold especially when he was duking it out with WR.

Tamada: never mind about dragging the knee on the tarmac that guy almost gets his shoulder down there as well!!!

Gary McCoy: Used to love watching him slide around each corner spinning & smoking up the rear especially on the unforgiving 500's.

Tamadas low shoulders are good, Elias looks great of course being so far off his bike he is invisible from the outside.

Haga is an old favorite of mine for the things he can do, doohan for being so individual and looking so wrong, and then pedrosa for being so textbook it looks so right.

Jorge Lorenzo... serious lean while cutting into other racer's line.. supremo aggressive

Daniel Pedrosa... smooth riding style and serious concentration while leading the pack!

Gotta add to the Nicky Hayden comments, always spectacular whether leading or in 10th!
Off the tarmac and onto the dirt for a minute, Ricky Carmichael just seemed to get harder and faster throughout his carreer! A pocket powerhouse who to me appeared to instill his will over the bike making him impossibly fast.

for ridiculous lean angles - it's gotta be Spies for me.

as for exciting riding.......... my god, where do you begin ?
McCoy for teaching the world how to light up the back end - Rossi for just sticking the bike where no-one else can - Xaus and Nitro Nori
<
for classic, balls out racing - Sheene for just being ice cool and a bit of a bad boy....................... i could go on

did any of you guys see jonathan Rea jumping his red bull Honda at cadwell park this year, that was something else it really was, getting 2 feet of air on a fireblade looks like really scary stuff!!

I like Spies' "elbowz" style. He also seems to keep his head down more often.

Rossi also keeps his head down alot, making him look very determined.

I was always amused by the way Manuel Poggiali nodded his had as hec ame on the brakes. He wasnt a great rider to watch, just waiting to see who he would take out next, but it always made me laugh.

I would have to say number one on my list was "steady-eddie" Lawson. Erv Kanemoto was quoted as saying that Lawson was his all time favorite, he would simply ride around any of the bikes problems.

Next would be John Kocinski. I think he was one of the most talented riders in any class, unfortunately he was also completely mad.

Kevin Schwantz, has anyone ever broken more of the laws of physics on a motorcycle while also breaking a lot of his own bones as well.

Last but not least Aron Yates, two in one a fearless and talented rider and professional wrestling skills for added entertainment.
