This article reminded me of this race. I had it taped , but accidently copied over it. Damn!

This video just gives a small sample. Unfortunately the last 3 mins is where most of the action was ( about the 2nd half of the race)

Try to get the whole race. It will be worth it,

Hehe I was going to say Phillip Island '89 then I clicked on the link

Some of the late 80's early 90's Suzuka races were also insane as was Assen 91.

Also a couple of Monza SBK races would be candidates also - cant remember when but I recall Bayliss, Chilli and Foggy were involved...

Whats the bet Talpa lists Laguna Seca 2008?

PS Excellent thread bunny!

I've been buzzing about Saturday's 125 and Moto2 races. Some of the best races in recent memory. But for me, it's Imola 2002. In my defense, I'm young.

Doesnt matter what your age, 02 Imola will make any bike racing fans top 5, and many will rate it at the top period. The backdrop was drama x10 and the whole race was pins and needles. You just knew it was going to end in tears for one of them as they swapped the lead back and forth. Another one is WSBK 09 Assen, it was brilliant. Gp wasnt regularly televised in the states back in the 70' and 80's, so there are a lot of races i have not seen. We followed the sport back then from magazines that were published once a month. Ahh, the good ole days.

You might be right there ........ and I'm an oldy.

It was great too because MGP had become a boring show with a heavily propped Rossi supposedly racing the "incredible" ( sarcasm ) competition. And that waste of time changeover period from 500's to 990's. All that was left in MGP after Criville WC were slouches brought in by wresting the series back into Euro control, hence euro riders.

Many folks had jumped to following SBK and Imola was a great treat for all those fans.

Clever though of MGP to nab Edwards and Bayliss after that.

Too early for those me, mine are:

Jerez (2005??) Rossi vs Sete battle royale.......will never forget that. Wonder what's happened to Gibbers anyway?

&

Rossi vs Lorenzo at catalunya a couple of years ago

Gotta say, love lap lap battles!

Mugello 2006

The best race by the lots-and-lots-of-overtaking-criteria was probably Mugello 2006. Plus, that race had a lot of drama, too. Gibernau in the lead on a Ducati in RossiLand. Rossi had only scored 40 points and 1 win through the first 5 rounds leading up to Mugello. Rossi made a mistake into San Donato which dropped him to fifth before he rode through for the victory in the closing stages. Complete theater. Great weather. The spectacle could only have been better if the promoters were throwing bread to the crowds.

Just thinking about that race hurts b/c Mugello 2006 is what we would see every weekend if they raised fuel capacity to 24L for the new 81mm 1000cc formula and softened up the tires a bit. People's minds would be blown, and development would be even more feverish b/c the 260hp limit (caused by 81mm) would send the manufacturers scrambling for even the tiniest advantages. Shows how clinical and dispassionate the MSMA have become.

Another good 'un is Philip Island 2000 or 2001. Can't remember, but it was another freight train at the front on 500cc two-strokes. I think it was 2001 cuz Nitro Nori was in the mix IIRC.

24L capacity wouldn't help, instead get rid of all electronics (TC, anti-wheelie etc.). although come to think of it maybe better not, coz then Stoner would probably beat everybody by 30 secs...

PI 2001

mugello 2006

catalunya 2007
