I see him on that bike. Good position if you think about it. A championship capable ride with Yamaha, and Colin Edwards doesn't look to be riding past 2009, it would be a great fit to have two SBK riders at Tech 3.

Now that USSB has been shot down, I'm sure he's entertaining offers abroad.

I'd be amazed if he takes a ride in WSBK for cheap. He can race that bike in the states and probably get paid 5x what he's being offered in WSBK.

Still if he does go, I'll be looking forward to a huge WSBK season in 2009!

If it is up to his mother, he'd be in the US. I think Ben will choose this ride, as he has done everything there is in the US. He doesn't need to let his career drive into nothing like it did for Mladin.

Might be news to you, but there is a saying "for love of the game" or people race because it is their passion and not for money. Was so great about motorcycle racing is 99% of riders do it because they love it, not for the money. Almost every rider that has been great has come up through the ranks just scraping up enough money to race from weekend to weekend. I know i race because its what I love to do in life and to turn professional in the next couple years. Getting paid to race is only a bonus. .... if i could just make enough money to live in a 1 bedroom apartment I would be happy!

If he ends up going to WSBK Yamaha squad, I think he got shafted in MotoGP. This while TAKA gets a seat at Honda. What a ....... joke is MotoGP--10 top riders and the rest there for filler.

thats the way its always been... if you bring more money to the table or you have the right nationality it's an easy decision to make.

Spies was asked to confirm his move to the Yamaha team at the Laguna Seca Superbike race - and he said he couldn't yet confirm or deny it . . . yet, but gave the smile that says, Yep it's true. If it weren't true - it would have been easy enough to deny it. WSBK it is. Good way for him to get to know the circuits. Gives Suzuki a year to kick themselves in the ... for their short-sightedness. Gives the others a year to see how he fares in Europe.

...and to add to that.

I think they are getting him ready to take Edward's seat in a year or two. Spencer said it will be announced this Wednesday.

The original rumor was that it was Rossi's seat Spies would eventually get. In the sense that Rossi would retire and Spies would be drafted into the team. Realistically Lorenzo will inherit Rossi's golden boy status at Yamaha and Spies would get the second seat. If there is any truth to that rumor.

Still nothing wrong with that. You still get a great seat. Yamaha seems to be giving pretty equal equipment right now to Jorge and Valentino.

Absolutely not, it'd be a great place to slot in. I was just making a point that Lorenzo is the heir to the throne. It was mostly for a laugh but you get the point.

Yeah. Well is it obvious that Lorenzo is a great rider. He will never be the number "two" rider in this pairing. Haven't seen enough of Spies on the MotoGP to judge, but he has potential.

We get the point. We kinda knew that. Even the people making those rumors up knew how it was going to be taken. He might take Rossi's place on the team, but he is not the number one rider.

I dont see why Suzuki wouldnt want him. He is cleary better than Vermeulen and Capirossi or anybody else Suzuki has. Just look at Indy and motegi.

It's a done deal...they reported it last night at the AMA Laguna race.... Suzuki shot themselves in the .... not giving him Capi's seat....

BUT he'll be in line for Colins YAMAHA seat come 2010...

Or Rossi's?

That didn't sound right.

Rossi is with Yam till 2011.

Maybe by that time we'll have real bikes back for Ben

And the latest rumor is Yamaha is trying to talk Edwards into giving up his seat at Tech 3 to Spies and he goes back to WSBK on the Yamaha.

Hell, one would think working class people would know the value of making a sure living. Racers have a relatively short time to make their dough as racers; they better make it while they can. What if Spies took a small paycheck and then suffered a career-ending injury?

Life is hard, especially now, get the money side of the deal taken care of if the opportunity presents itself.
