No, he's an underachiever because he played for the Bronco's and Montana was a real ....... man who played for the ...... San Francisco 49ers!

- and Steve young can kiss my arse!

(that's as far as I am willing to go talkin' about football with Americans. I just like the uniforms

)

Big montana fan myself, and he was significantly better than elway imo, which does not preclude elway being fairly good.

It's good to see the 49's on the way back... too many years in the wild. Not the full-on return I would like, but at least they are winning the odd big game.

Pity it had to be against the Pack... I have a soft spot for the cheeseheads.

Loved the 49ers in the days of montana and rice, and despite my being australian montana is very close to the top of my sporting heroes in any sport. Particularly liked the superbowl against marino's dolphins.

I remember that era well and that game. The Dolphins had two great wide receivers caled Mark Clayton and Mark Duper who used to get on the end of Marino's bombs. The 49ers had a great team in that era - Dwight Clarke, Wendell Tyler, Roger Craig - and remember big Bubba Paris?

I always used to follow the Redskins during the same period - John Riggins was unbelievable. Do you remember Joe Theisman getting sacked by Laurence Taylor during a game against the Giants and how his leg was broken? Some years ago when Leon Camier went down on the Mountain at Cadwell I was reminded of it. Nasty.

spies on the ducati....i really hope the satellite squad really get the same upgrades as the factory team, can't wait to see who is better, ben or nicky.

if we can't get those two to fight out a monumental battle for the wsbk crown , a battle on equal machinery in motogp is the next best thing

John riggins and the redskins the year they won were what started my interest in nfl. The speed he displayed at age 35 odd and 250 lbs or whatever when he got in the clear to score that touchdown in the superbowl was awesome to behold, he was a primeval force of nature. If I recall marino was good in the 49ers superbowl as well, but couldn't match montana in rushing for touchdowns.

The 'skins cornerback Darrell Green also stood out for his speed and guile. Regarded as one of the best cornerbacks the game has seen.

Yes he seemed to be faster than the olympic medallist (?brown) playing for one of the other teams at the time, and stayed fast and good for a long time.

Defensive players in the NFL have longer careers. Good example of that now is Tikki and Ronde Barber. Tikki at Running Back has been retired since 2006 where as Ronde is still playing.

Before the Carolina Panthers franchise came along, I was a Redskins fan. Started watching football during the hog years, with the diesel running over defenses, then sprinting to the oxygen tank after he scored...was an awesome site to see.

Wow talk about off topic.. come on guys.. American football? Let's get real.. if someone starts talkin nascar or wwf I'm outta here lol

He would be better served waiting it out a year and racing somewhere else other than MotoGP. Though where that will be I have no clue, because it seems like the competitive seats in WSBK are being locked up and I don't follow AMA so I don't know what is available there.

Doubt it.. how many people have you seen leave motogp and then come back successfully.. take the Ducati ride and take Nickys spot in a year or Suzuki if they come back.. personally I hope zook gets their shiz together.. if they return competitive with a spies effort that'd be awesome.. if they give Hopkins a try.. oh brother..

Agree with you. If ben leaves motogp after a bad year with the yamaha factory team at his age he is gone, and I don't think the AMA is paying much money and am not sure even in what form it exists these days.

Apologies for the nfl talk, it arose from drawing a simile between joe montana and valentino rossi. I wasn't brought up to nfl at all but enjoy the physical chess element, and the athleticism and skill, but it is probably hard to watch if you are not into it.

I live in California.. was brought up on it.. I was just kidding.. I'd play football.. but I don't get the people who debate 24hrs a day about it.. watch espn nonstop have 4 fantasy leagues and play madden all night.. motogp as shown by powerslide is much more refined lol

Riggins was fantastic.

Growing up and playing in a rugby-mad family (and country!) we always were conditioned to see NFL players, with their pads and helmets, as ........

I remember before the Dolphins/Redskins Superbowl watching a doco of Riggins - real locker-room stuff. He was in the locker room at half time, jersey off getting his broken finger attended to, getting the cuts and abrasions cleaned and bandaged and then I realised - all the padding in the world doesn't help a damn when you have two 250lb defensive units looking to remove you from the game.

It was my Damascus moment and from then on, I was hooked.

Can't stand Rugby League, NRL, Football, Basketball, Hockey, anything... but Rugby, American Football and 7s - I can watch all day

What, you don't like 7s??? It isn't as if you need a particularly large attention span - I thought it would work for the MTV generation...
