........ Spies is on the Duc

You mean he is going to piss & moan, underachieve, and quit before its time. Yea I can see that happening too.

He could do that, interview his daddy for fun and go skipping off back to Yamaha with Uncle Carmello hand in hand to live happily ever after. Or, he could take the gay yellow highlights off the Ducati lollipop, put some badass black paint on, take 80 seconds to fix it and ride the bull like a real man. Go Spies!

Well maybe. His underachieving undoubtedly out weighed his ability to win championships. Stoner should have already won more than 2.

When? If you want to argue he should have won this year I would agree given how dani is placed he had a chance at this year's title, but most of his bid was after his decision to retire.

On the evidence of all other riders who have ridden an 800 or 1000 ducati gp bike, and to a lesser extent the 990 ducati, his ducati title was a massive overachievement. He had a shot in 2008, but I seem to recall some bloke called valentino riding fairly well that year.

2 titles is fine, particularly since both were dominant wins over a field containing great riders. More titles would have been even better, but he was never going to ride long enough to challenge the likes of doohan and rossi, and as mick doohan himself has said the true mark of rossi's greatness (and by implication his superiority over mick) was his ability to stay at the very pinnacle of the sport for over a decade. Apart from lacking the desire, I freely acknowledge stoner did not have the physical and mental toughness to prevail for as long as valentino has/did, but then nobody does. Jorge looks somewhat more likely to approach valentino, but I strongly doubt he will in the end either.

Undecided about ben going to ducati. I am a fan and followed his wsbk title avidly. Maybe there is considerable money there for him, maybe he wants to stay in the game awaiting suzuki's return, maybe he regards motogp as unfinished business. I can see why he would not want to stay at yamaha even if they wanted him, his side of the garage seems to have been run with at the very least almost unprecedented incompetence for a yamaha or honda factory team.

Ouch, nice return of serve

Ducati is full go now with development and they are making good moves with their riders. I think they'll improve the bike and with all the quality riders on the bike next year they wont be able to ignore any rider complaints. This is a great move for Spies if you ask me, Nicky is on a one year deal and Spies can pull his own "Dovi" and get back on a #1 bike as long as he performs, plus Ducati would still have a popular American rider for the US market if Spies comes in highly motivated. I think all the criticism he's been getting may have left him with something to prove.

Well I guess the money was right for him to stay!

Good luck to him its not like he can do much worse!

Honda?

Oh wait, u were prob thinking Marlboro Ducati. Yeah yeah, cuz Casey has such fond memories of being questioned as to the authenticity of his "mystery" illness. Oh, and Ducati factory bending over backwards, u know, moving heaven and earth, to develop the bike based on their only champ's inputs.

Keep focused on guessing which manufacturer would give him a ride -- trying to read my mind confuses you Jum...

Stoner was pissed with Ducati's top management, not with Ducati Corse at any level. That top management is now being overridden by Audi. Come next year, they will be irrelevant or gone.

Honda should always give Stoner a bike if they are wise; but will they forget the way he quit? That's the question, and knowing them one can have doubts.

Thats it man. I am flying you to america to settle this over a game of beer pong!

When? Every year he was in motogp post 07. He has found ways to beat himself in every season except two, because he is an underachiever. A ridiculously talented underachiever for sure. But an underachiever none the same. Every sport has them. You know the dude that if he actually put some work in or gave a .... about what he was doing might have even been great some day.

I exaggerate to make my point, but is john elway an underachiever because he won only 2 of 5 superbowls he contested while joe montana won all 4 he contested, and are elway's 2 negligible because montana won 4?

Every year since 2006, when Pedrosa and Stoner came on the scene, then Lorenzo in 08, Rossi has found a way to beat himself in every season except 2, because he is an underachiever, a ridiculously talented underachiever for sure, but an underachiever none the same.

See how ridiculously stupid that sounds.

No because I admit that Stoner is faster and should have won all of them. Rossi winning a couple just shows his greatness.

Your point was good. I was exaggerating as always. But this one is better. You had me at John Elway.

Cheer up Ben...

Iannone 1.48.3 during his second test on the Ducati Desmosedici at Mugello.

Rossi's qualification time for the last GP: 1.48.5

Hayden's: 1.47.6

Pedrosa was on pole with 1.47.2

I was just about to post that. The question is whether these are the upgrades Rossi tested and they are implementing, or if it is the same bike?

Dan Marino never won any yet...

Pedrosa is not an underachiever. He has achieved what one should expect from a good rider given every possible advantage to win a title against a grid made up of mostly those with considerable less parity. Pedrosa is simply overrated, which gives the impression he is an underachiever.
