However, Bautista's injury was made all the more complex by the formation of compartmental syndrome, which was causing bleeding inside the thigh. As such, doctors decided to make an incision from the hip to the knee to relieve the muscle inflammation. This incision remained open, and an attempt to close it was made in a new procedure 48 hours later but without success.

Outch! If he comes back this year, that will be amazing. Get well soon. (And look at the upside, when you don't win, you can blame the leg for years to come).

No seriously, read the entire article, it looks bad. Poor guy had to endure more than just a repair but sounds like a life saving transfusion. Crazy .... what these guys go through. While shoulders are getting all the attention, this guy was practically leaking of blood.

Get well soon man!

Not if they they can't close the wound soon and he has suffered any muscle necrosis prior to them relieving the compartment syndrome, which hopefully he has not.

1 litre blood loss for a femoral fracture was considered standard when I did trauma, which admittedly was rather a long time ago. They must have been worried though, or they would just have given him fluids other than blood in this day and age. He will be fine from that point of view though, and hopefully they have relieved the compartment syndrome before he suffered any muscle or nerve damage.
