Aussie Evel?

I don't want to come off as watering down this brilliant Aussie's accomplishment, but for some reason the jump wasn't that dramatic to me. Would I do something like this, hell no, this guy has more balls than a field of bulls. I just think it was anticlimatic to me because of the extreme sports we see today with back flips, body varials and double back flips, and then to jump it again like it was nothing. Great execution and preparation though hands down a professional dare devil.

It's great he gave the original dare devil Evel his due, everyone knows the equipment Evel had to work with, hence the many failures he endured during his career. Could you imagine jumping a 70's Harley even half that distance...suicide comes to mind.

Great accomplishment and I hope he keeps the record for a long time and no one dies trying to best it.

I kind of feel the same way.During the build up,i never had any doubt he would make it.I still cant decide if these guys are mentally ........ or just full of grit and balls.Helluva price to pay on the body to get semi rich and semi famous.

Next time you are on an American football field. Stand at one end and look over to the other side where the goal post is, now imagine somebody going through the air that entire distance, from goal post to goal post! That's amazing.

It looked easy, but that's only because it was calculated and engineered and prepared to the maximum. The guy took his life and risked it the moment he started up that ramp. Had he over shot or under shot, he'd be in the hospital in critical condition fighting to stay alive. The video doesn't really do justice.

I'm with ya Jumkie!

Yeah, I was thinking how far is 320 feet

I thought more of the lenght of block I live on.

Good stuff

RJ you and I are huge Pastrana fans...which impressed you more, this jump or the double back flip? For me the double back flip was a little more impressive.

I was hoping I wouldn't come off as watering down this accomplishment...but in the world of the internets it may have seemed that way. I'm with you though when you look at the length of a football field and saw how high and fast he was traveling, TV would no doubt do it an injustice.

Damn!; how much longer till MotoGP racing starts back up!

Yeah, I hear you man. Actually, I had the privilege of being at the double back flip here in Los Angeles. I have been lucky to go to all the X-Games here in town. As far as technical skill, it seems like the double-back flip was more impressive because it looks like more is going on. And to duplicate it would be very difficult. Its complicated to compare it to a single jump. But Vegas is only 4 hours away from where I live, so I've seen a few guys do "smaller" jumps like 80-130 feet. It "seems" easy when you see it until you try to jump 20-30 feet yourself. But have you ever seen Seth Enslow’s monster jump? Do you remember his landing? (If you have seen it on video). Well the guy's skull almost came apart. It was put back together like a jigsaw puzzle. Now Seth jumped 251 feet! He was in the air almost 3 seconds. Now compare this to what this Aussie has done. He jumped 320 feet; he was in the air close to 4 seconds! I admit, it looks easy on the video. It did to me at first until I started to think about it more. So I know what you mean with your initial reaction, I know we both have respect for the accomplishment, but visually it’s a bit tricky to compare the two fantastic feats of Travis and Robbie the Aussie.

What I find amazing was that the Aussie managed to keep his bike sailing forward without lifting the front too much or getting it sideways and sticking the landing. If you get to see Seth's landing, it almost doesn't look like he overshot it, yet his bike comes apart like a toy. Now this Aussie stuck the landing four seconds later after he left the first ramp! And he did it twice! Really, I don't think he would have survived had he under or over shot by a few feet. So imagine the precision in both of those jumps. Wow, the more I think about it, the more I'm impressed.

Double-back flip or jumping 320ft??

Both take Commitment, balls of steel.

Jumping almost 100m, ....!!!!!!
The video doesn't do justice....

This is just the beginning,I read somewhere that (i think) Robbie,Ryan Capes and Seth are gonna have a comp at some Red Bull bash later in the year to see who really can go the furthest, that I wanna see!!!

I just came back from dirtbiking this weekend. I was doing some jumps with a friend of mine and got to thinking about this dude's jump. All I can say is .......! That was crazy to even attempt, much less do it twice. I am more impressed the more I think about it. Try going out on your dirtbike and jumping 30-40 foot gaps. When you're in the air, think about this guy did 10X that distance. Ah, the feat will begin to sink in very quickly.

When I raced Motocross the furthest I ever jumped was 80 ft with a large margin of error, it was a down hill double. I can remember doing that jump thinking damn when am I going to land. That jump was more about commitment and if you came up short you were going to be okay about half the time.....damn I miss my old motocross days when I was shape and had money to burn (before kids and marriage).
