Cal said he was going to win if he didn't crash.

Not quite .......... he said he could have won in the reports I have seen, although he does speak of it as a foregone conclusion certainly

Which being fair is what you would expect any racer to say ........... I could/should have won that race were it not for X

VR said it after Assen and the engine blow up (as examples)

The difference between VR as the example and cal of course being that one has good race winning history in MotoGP, the other rides in MotoGP

Any reason why they are being mum about the test and the times?

I didn't realize Stoner still holds the track record, and set the record back in 2007 with a 1:33.918. If he was in line with all of that, that's pretty good stuff to have not ridden there in 4 years, and be on pace.

I think Lorenzo improved slightly on that record in 2011, anyway I wasn't clear -- it' not the official record. The rumors say Stoner lapped close to Misano's best lap of 1:32:14 set by Lorenzo in Q2 last year. The track has been resurfaced, still it's pretty fast lapping.

Ducati in this phase just want to avoid unnecessary media noise and concentrate on their work.

J4, was it the GP16 that he was testing all day or did they throw in the early incarnation GP17 for a comparo?

As for times, that is not bad at all if he was down around the JL time as the Michelin's would not have run there for a while either so it does seem like an interesting day for team Duc

Good god, that's quick if he was around that lap time.

Too bad their current riders aren't at his level.

Seems Ducati built a bike that is world championship material, only it can't achieve it as usual. At least we will have some idea of what that bike should be doing when they get to Misano.

No word on any possible wild card from Stoner?

The common wisdom inside Ducati was that Stoner would do a wild card at P.I. and probably also at Motegi or Sepang, but since Lorenzo signed nobody knows for sure any more. In the new circumstances a fresh decision is called for and perhaps it has not been made yet. We can only hope.

Ducati's best rider is their test rider. Awkward.

The interesting thing here is that they put Stoner at the center.

Makes sense since he is the only rider to ever win a GP title for the brand. He will be the face of Ducati until someone else wins a title

True, but for the symmetry of the photo it allows the photo to go MotoGP team, other, WSBK team. Otherwise were Stoner to be in another position the symmetry would be broken.

That said, it does seem 'unusual' that your test rider is in prime position

Somewhere buried deep in this thread was me trolling about maybe Ducati should use Stoner for marketing the Panigale.

Well look what I just found...

might be a little out of topic but since there is talk about stoner, does anyone has any info about him making an appearance in Austria this year? that track is almost all straights so should suit ducati and i keep hearing stoner is gonna do his first WC there.

That bike is gorgeous

Agree. I tell you another gorgeous bike, one of my ridingbuddies just dumped his BMW 1000rr for a Triumph 675R. That is one good looking bike and comes with a lot of goodies. The BMW was trouble from the get go. Numerous internal engine issues and when it went out of warranty, he just didnt feel like he could trust it or BMW to do the right thing if it ...... up again
