Good luck Krazy. I've been toying with the idea of getting a late 90's TZ250 racer as a trackday bike. 250 or 125 is the only 'real' racebike I could ever get to ride as opposed to something production based like a superbike or a 600. I've no real 2-stroke experience so I reckon it'd be a lot of fun to learn about them. I'd love to see some pics of your bike when you get it sorted. Suzuka, Sugo....I'm very jealous
Oh yeah Krazy....my advice for what it's worth, tyres are the only thing worth spending your money on when you're starting off.

(im also a auto technician too tho so makes it a bit easier)If your a spanner already you're laughing, resist tempation to squeeze all the speed out of it by jetting the thing too lean and the pistons and rings will last your whole first season and it won't seize OUCH. I was lucky enough to be mentored in my first year by a pretty handy 250 rider, the guy finished 2nd in the manx gp. We went to all the meetings together so I got to see a how to run a 250 for a whole season first-hand, only got to ride it once is the pity, I'd love to really learn how to ride a 250 properly. His was a 97 TZ250 and he won the Irish pre '97 title that year. He always ran it just a little on the rich side which meant he always finished. Some other bikes might have been faster some days but his bike was always reliable and never broke down, that and good tyres won him the chamionship, oh yeah he was quick as fook, that helped a bit too. Good luck anyway man, post some pics of the bike when you get 'em.
I rode at Tsukuba circuit a little while ago... haha man do these 2 strokes go!! I was really impressed. Now I just gotta lose some weight Im 63kg right now wanna be around 55... you know go faster
