Supersport Championship: "It's Over"

Sunday, August 20, 2006

Jamie Hacking and Yamaha clinched the 2006 Supersport title today when Hacking won and Kawasaki's Roger Hacking retired from the VIR Supersport race.

Hacking, the 2003 Supersport champion as well, has an insurmountable 90 point lead over Danny Eslick with two races to go.

Jamie won the exciting race, helping cement Yamaha's fifth AMA Supersport championship.

Hacking got off his bike and gave high fives to the crowd before returning to victory lane.

Congratulations to Jamie Hacking!!!

Congrats to the winner!

Will he stay to defend the title next year?

Excuse my ignorance I never really follow the SS racing.

Not sure what his 2007 plans are. Rumor has it Yamaha will field Hacking, Jason DiSalvo and Eric Bostrom on all new R1s in Superbike. Generally, factories like riders to stay in classes with a number one plate, especially in Supersport, to sell more bike. However, Tommy Hayden did not defend his 2005 title to focus on Superbike. Hacking will be in a similar situation to Hayden in 2006 I believe.
