Congratulations to Josh Hayes on his second AMA SBK title. Congratulations to Danny Eslick on his second AMA DSB title.
For the first time this season, SBK was more interesting than DSB. SBK Race 2 was a classic that will go down with some of the great races in AMA history. 7-8 bikes maintained pace in lead group to mid distance, and 5 bikes were in the lead pack until the end. Hayes did not secure 2nd place until a scrap for the lead by the front running Suzukis sent Bostrom off track during the second half of the final lap.
Based upon reports and rumors circulating around the paddock and through the media, AMA Pro is going to ride an emotional rollercoaster during the off season again. Fans can be optimistic about Herrin (possibly Eslick) graduating to the SBK class for 2012. Kawasaki and BMW were both competitive at NJMP as development cycles matured. Participation by either manufacturer would lift the profile of the series. Both Jordan bikes were also competitive as they reached the end of their development cycle as well. Unfortunately, money is still scarce in the AMA paddock, and rumors abound that Hayes wants to leave the US and that Hayden has been sacked from the Yoshimura team. Though DSB is an exciting class, the concept is not popular with the manufacturers, and there are no plans to restructure DSB or reposition it any time soon. Sponsors are not present, and the underlying lack of funds threatens to cancel even more events for next season.
Does anyone have any interesting info?
