I was thinking about a cure to F1's problems, too expensive, not much passing, only 1-2 teams are any good throughout a season, and a few more. With the recent rule changes, i think the current season is the best by far in a long time, but it still has the preceding problems. So, what do you think about a one design chassis/aero configuration for all cars(permitting adjustment of the wings). But allow all of the current engine/drivetrain, and tire rules. Think about it, R&D wise how much of wind tunnel, aerodynamic efficiancy research actually makes a difference to anything outside of F1 (NASA already has their own engineers). I am assuming absolutly none. Engine/drivetrain R&D are the only items i see that can actually benefit outside the F1 world. With the rules i stated above i invision a much more competitve environment, closer racing, and more pressure on the engine builders to keep building more incredible engines (whose technology will continue to benefit everyone who drives a car). Not only that....whats that insane amount of $$ that the teams spend on wind tunnels that they will now be able to save. A cheaper/closer F1? Thoughts?

If they did that though it would be more like A1 GP where all the teams and cars are virtually the same. Anyway, it's like a league in a league for the drivers, proceeding to the top and best teams is what you want to achieve to help you win. I personally think it is best left as it is, boring or not boring.

as the pinnacle of technology in motorsport i do find it not too exciting to watch. anything that can make the racing more exciting would be ok with me

As much as I'd like to see closer racing, I'm against any spec rules. I think it takes away from competition.

Yeah, F1 is boring, but it has its place. It`s supposed to be the pinnacle of automobile technology, and that`s what it is. They won`t dumb down the rules to increase the action. If anything they`ll make them wore so the engineers have to work harder to build competitive cars, like Rossi said, it`s all about the engineers. F1 will never again rival GP, or any bike racing for excitement week in, week out. But that`s not what it`s there for.
