kurtis roberts is going to ride a 2nd bike for team kr. so sez freddie spencer on ama sbk broadcast.

Yeah, apparently he quit riding for NFS Honda team without warning to go international. Now we will be subjected to his ugly grill for the rest of the season.

wait for something official from the team although i cant say i am surprised KR wants to keep it a family thing!

yeah i doubt it's going to help them much but he needs a job.

That's exactly what Junior and Senior need in their second rider; an attitude problem, no results since 2003 and from what I've seen, an inability to develop a motorcycle. Unless Kurtis is personally sponsoring the team, I don't understand how this helps their cause. Senior's going to pay for a rider who hasn't done anything in four years to ride a second bike when he's running on a shoestring budget as is?

I hate to sound so pessimistic because I really would like to see Kurtis and the KR team succeed but this is a big gamble at this point.

EDIT By paying for a rider I mean the costs of fielding a second bike. I can't imagine Kurtis being paid to ride.

Not bad and yourself? I noticed that as soon as I posted and edited it. He probably won't even have to pay Kurtis's board, probably just make him bunk up with Junior.

no doubt!

Well this is great news to me. Fielding another bike is good news. If I was Kenny SR. I would first look to my sons to carry the torch. It’s his team and he gets to make the decisions. Yeah, perhaps there are better riders out there. But lets not forget, a certain rider who hardly got any attention and certainly on a bike/package that is clearly inferior, lead the race for a moment this past weekend. So lets not go righting off little brother just yet. This is motorsports, and anything can happen. I also think its a good idea, because another rider can provide some feedback to the team. Its not like things could be any worse, they are running in the back already. Like I've said before, I don't think JR suddenly forgot how to ride a bike. It obviously a machinery problem. They need to sort this out asap. If they have the means to field another bike and "free rider" well then so be it. I'm rooting for them all the way.

Yes, Kurtis has a face only a mother could love, well yeah, but so do few other guys in the paddock. Rossi isn’t exactly a model (unless your trying to sell clown suits).

My fiance would disagree with you!

I really can't see how fielding a second (crap) rider is going to help out Team Roberts at this point. I'd be putting that money into improving their obviously lacking bike. Why have 2 ..... bikes on the grid instead of one slightly improved one?

My first thought was why bother, get your first bike going well first !! maybe Kenny just wants someone to be under him on the time sheet to make him look better. But who cares let them make themselfs look more stupid.

Kurtis is absolute .....! WTF is Senior thinking. 2 bikes at the back of the grid instead of 1, great news for Snr's sponsors.

Agreed about getting more feedback Jumkie and it's nice to have a rider riding for free but can Kurtis really develop a bike? Sure, the KR5 was largely unsuccessful and Kurtis was no worse than anyone else riding it, but he also failed to develop the CBR100RR Superbike in 2005 on a team he was very familiar with. His only success has come on a proven and world championship-caliber machine.

Like I've said before though, I'll be pulling for Team KR.

Ooostin how are ya, where've you been?

Kurtis is cheap and he'll do whatever Snr says but I doubt he can make much difference over and above simply gathering data. I'd say kenny knows exactly what he's doing though...if it's true.

Not too bad how about yourself? Just finished school for the year and working now. Still adjusting to reverse culture shock.

You can't argue with a free tester. And who knows, the guy has no other career options, he's backed into a corner here. Maybe it's the motivation and atmosphere he needs to excel and parlay this into a full time ride somewhere.

funny how not so long ago we got the heart bleeding story about how they were so poor they could not afford to do the whole season now they are having a 2 bike team, damn those new sponsors must have pumped in some serious dollars.
i always root for the small poor teams but i just cant see the sence in this.

You bring up some very good points, and all that will be answered as the process plays itself out. Hey, maybe a little sibling rivalry will do the trick, eh?

I'm pulling for them all the way. Its seems some on this thread think its a bad idea, but here is the thing, at least we can see they are trying something, right? Unlike Ilmore, who just up and folded.

Given'em a chance Rog. Hey, at least Kurtis can add color to the grid, eh?
