We’re just gonna call this round 2, even though it’s the first weekend for the Superbikes. Sad that MotoAmerica did not race at COTA this year with MotoGP. They did put it on the calendar for early September though People are going to melt.
Stock 1000 (Superstock) could be the best show on the card this year. The grid is teeming and the times are competitive and results unexpected because sometimes a bike meshes well with a circuit. Cameron Beaubier has apparently hooked up his brother with a good BMW outfit, and he’s at the sharp end of Stock 1000 this year.
Superbike is a bit thin since abandoning the sub-championship but it’s shaping up to be Cam B vs Jake G with Cam P hoping to get in the mix. Fourteen bikes when Paasch comes back is probably enough. Herrin on the Ducati could be interesting. Not as sharp as Petrucci, but Herrin is a trier. He won’t check out if things aren’t perfect.
Supersport looks like it could be the Suzuki 750 show. Scott is currently .5 seconds clear at Road Atlanta. Xavi Fores has taken over Ducati V2 duties from Herrin. Hayes is still running around trying to claim sole possession of the largest AMA Pro career win total (seeking #83). He’s not on the pace at Atlanta currently.
Twins Cup is a bit weird this season. Quite a few riders have graduated to other classes, only Blake Davis, Hayden Schultz and Jody Barry seem to be hanging around. Oddly, Rocco Landers has stepped back into twins cup with Rodio Racing, and he’s currently obliterating the field. He’s about 1 second clear, but we’ll see what happens on race day. Kayla Yaakov is still recovering from injury. Stefano Mesa is pulling double duty and filling in for her again, but without quite as much success as at Daytona.
Racing should be good
