That was before 4 years ago when I actually went to Assen to watch the race. Phillip Island is on my bucket list. Hope to get contact info for all the Oz-Guys from this forum and do a meet-up.

I am over discussing the rider concerned, vs the riders I support or have supported previously anyway. My issues are not with his riding or his achievements in any case.
I really don’t know how MM can go on with what is happening currently. I guess the qualifying crash was a fairly routine one but was in a circumstance where he has usually excelled previously, I can’t recall off hand him crashing on a banzai last qualifying lap or banzai last race lap. The high side in practice was just absolutely massive, seldom seen in recent years and exactly what the electrickery is supposed to prevent according to the arguments for same from the safety point of view. I guess he has pushed for the bike to be as fast as possible without consideration and bears some responsibility for the way the Honda is although not for anything that has been done in the last year, but speculation from the commentators that the now higher grip current tire might be a factor seems reasonable to me. I guess all these crashes show that his previously fractured humerus is fully healed now, or at least not subject to re-fracture from incidental trauma, he has subjected it to rather more stress than opening a window.
