2017 rider moves

Looks like riders might start making some moves pretty early this season.

First 2017 MotoGP rider moves ?after 3-4 races? | MotoGP 0

I myself don't see any big moves in 2017, so I am not going to ask predictions. I am going to ask for moves that would make since in your mind, or more importantly, make for better racing.

The one I think would be the most interesting is Pedro to Suzuki. I would like to see a proven rider on the bike in 2017 to see if it can compete.

But like I said, I don't foresee any major chances.

Wow, the thought of Pedrosa on the Suzuki certainly sounds interesting to me.

Wouldn't it be interesting if there was a particular week in the off season where all the race teams got together like your typical race weekend but all racing contracts were null and void for that particular week. Thus giving any rider the ability to take a "test ride" on any other machine. Everything is filmed and times are recorded like any regular practice session. I sure would be glued to the TV for that!

I doubt Honda makes a move this time around. There simply isn't anyone ready to replace Pedrosa. Maybe they give him one year deal and snatch Rins after next season, or stick to the plan and give Dani a final 2 year deal with Fabio stepping in 2019. Yamaha will not change because I can tell you right now Rossi is coming back. With his ego, you will know before the season starts when he is going to retire. He will want the love fest tour at every stop on the schedule. Suzuki would be smart to forego the norm and offer Vinales a high paying 4 year deal instead of the normal 2 and also offer Rins the same . Lock up two young riders and concentrate on the bike 100 %. As we all know, Suzuki rarely does the smart thing and has a history of trying to go GP racing on the cheap. Ducati will keep Ianonne pending injury for the foreseeable future, Dovi is riding for his seat. Speaking of Ducati, Redding needs to up his game to top 6-7 in the championship. The shelf life of doing something historical 7 years ago is running out. Bradley most likely earned a new deal, the rest are interchangeable parts that have very little bargains power and will lose or keep their seats depending on how cheap they are willing to sign .

I agree 100%.

But.. If Suzuki had a truck load of cash, don't you think Pedro would have to at least think about it? More money. Going from being the 2nd guy on the team to being THE GUY on the team.

That would have to be tempting for a rider, if he thought the Suzuki's was going to be competitive at all in 2017.

Thing is.... being on the Suzuki introduces a great many unknowns, which I reckon would potentially cost him a ....-load of sponsorship money.
Moreover he's been working with the Honda people for so long, who are so familiar with his particular needs re: his tiny size and lack of weight
that - I imagine he'd be loathe to work with a totally different bike and a crew with no history of adjusting to his idiosyncratic set-up requirements.

It is likely just me, but I find it intriguing that it is Jarvis being quoted.

Sounds a bit like a fishing exercise in some aspects, like throw the bait and see what happens

Personally I suspect it will be like the gunslingers of old, he that blinks first

Rossi will decide wether to retire or not during the season. If he is not competitive enough he will retire. Don't really understand the Ego-I'll-decide-before-the-season-begins.

For being so old he did well in the past year.

Don't forget KTM, I think they will sign at least a top rider

People keep saying for being so old but forget that with advances in nutrition supplements and training athletes are able to stay at the top/competitive for much longer now.

KTM could very interesting

Does KTM have any riders under contract currently for 2017? Other than test riders.

Just test riders I think with de Puniet and Luthi recently joining for 2016 as well.

Love the photo accompanying the article. Lorenzo looks like he's had a long vacation in the Bahamas washing Xanax down with Cold Modelos, Jarvis looks like a stressed out mom trying to calm down a car full of kids with attention deficit disorder and Rossi looks like he has a giant pair of chopsticks shoved up his bum.
