I am going to this years MotoGP at Phillip Island and have been looking at ticket options. It appears the only way to get Pit Access is to purchase VIP tickets. Is there another way to get Pit Access passes or do I have to fork out for VIP tickets?.  Thanks

You get a lot better bang for your buck going to the super bikes in February. You won't get near the riders even with a VIP package for MotoGp. You get a meal & some free beer & a 15 minute pit walk per day.

For Superbikes you get near everything with a VIP pass.

I agree Friz. You buy a basic paddock pass for WSBK and you can spend all day wondering around and meet all the riders who are just wondering around. Plus they have plenty of time on their hands to talk to you.

Had a Yamaha pass for Silverstone MotoGP last year and met no one really apart from seeing a few dudes from behind the barriers.

Agree very strongly with above statements AND the weather is generally better at super bike time.

Until I got used as a speedbump by a septagenerian in a monster truck I did both every year.

Although, riding from the Qld border to Phillip Island is a chore AND it takes the the time between the races (February to October) for your back and very chaffed freckle to recover.

u got 8 odd months to make some new mates. if you know anyone racing down there u can score pit passes thru them if they got any spare. most riders recieve 2 passes, and if u are matey enough with them, they may donate one to u. easy huh ;)

roo, spot on about the qld ride. every time im down there some smart arse qlder takes the piss cause i didnt ride down. .... that. its about 11 tanks of fuel and burn through a set of tyres, so it ends up being bloody expsensive. not to mention the sore ring piece :)

just plucked that number out of fat air. to be precise, the calculator says 13.333 tanks for getting there and back, plus an extra couple for riding around down there. better? ;)

Come to Indianapolis. With a paddock pass in hand you'll meet every single MotoGP rider. Ask Jumkie to post his pics from our last trip there. It's really quite easy at Indy. I think everywhere else, you're going to be out of luck. At Laguna, it's impossible.

I was pissed I could only like that once. I thought 11 was an optimistic pluck, that's all.

Give me some credit, diesel bike was ....... funny.

Today is a rainy computer day and I plan on breaking the record for number of posts in a day today.

Today I am Andy "last word" Roo

I used to do it on the CBR600RR with all 110kg of me, my gear and an enthusiastic right hand (make your jokes its all true) and I would put my third tank in at Tenterfield after going up the mountain, which on our circuitous path was just under 300km (14 litre tank).

I appreciated the stops so I could take my freckle off the plank of hardwood they called a seat.

...... Try riding from Perth! (I cheated and caught the motorail train home, though).

I rate those Sargent seats. Luxury!

Gas wasn't so bad, got around 180Mi/tank at silly, not-in-Victoria-yet speeds.

Thanks for the replies, I will keep your comments in mind. A 15 minute pit walk and seeing bugger all isnt what I had in mind. Ill look into it but it seems I would be wasting my money.

met a dude there a couple of times that rode a chook chaser guzzi from perth. much ....... respect!

as for victoria speeds, that state is scary for that. we got pinged for 3kmh over the limit in 2007. vic coppers dont have a sense of humour do they? :)

Had paddock passes for PI for the last.. I dunno 13? years?

The paddock has become more and more boring. Unless you can hang in the garage with a team, all a team pass/VIP gets you is a view of closed roller doors and mechanics washing fairings. But if you're brazen you can get yourself into the media centre and fill your pockets with the free food the useless journos make themselves fat on and take it back to your mate's in the dismal support race paddock...ahem.
