Give them the 2 years development of the moto 2s and I guarantee that won't be the case!

Half the horsepower, spec ECU, minor league riders and Dunlop tires. It shouldnt matter, plus, some of the CRT's that are behind on that list have been testing for a while now.

The Jerez race distance is a much longer 27 laps, which Lorenzo and Stoner's team-mate Dani Pedrosa chose to complete (see separate stories), but in the past Stoner has been able to effectively replicate full distances by starting his 'mini' simulations with well-worn tyres and high fuel loads

If that was done starting on worn tires and full fuel load, the field has some serious worries. What happened to the Yamaha being faster over a run, was that wishful thinking, or has Stoner been playing the game.

Rossi knows what he is doing. He knows he is the greatest. Ducati is downplaying on how great the bike really is. Rossi is more determined this year to win. He would never admit that somebody is better than him. Maybe there bikes where better last year but they are not better riders and Stoner better not be to cocky because Rossi will come up from the back and suddenly he is right at your back tire fighting for position watching your every move.

Where's old mate 'VROSSI46' today.... ???

I don't think it matters how it was done, with the way the bikes are now if you can pull a good advantage in the first 1/3rd of the race no one is going to catch you. How could CS be playing a game if this was his first simulation of the year, Honda was just blowing smoke up everyone's ... when they said the Yam was better. They've been doing that the entire year with the chatter, not liking the tires, and complaining about the extra weight. The racing should still be closer this year, well after Qatar because we all know Casey owns that track. Casey pulled his fastest lap at the end of the day and Jlo was doing them earlier in the day as far the race simulations go I'm not sure at what time each rider chose to do it but it might be interesting to see if the bikes behave differently with the track conditions.

Reports are team VROSSI46 lost their way chasing the wrong setup. Benchmark Hayden was probably used to get team VR46 back on track.

Irony.

Lorenzo's land BTW is doing just fine with the Yam, even having never ridden a 990. Lorenzo has not been lost chasing wrong set-ups, so that old warning to Yamaha that VR46 alone could develop a bike appears well and truly myth busted.

This posting is worse ........ than the "i'm gonna boycott" posting, Pov. Does someone sneak onto your 'puter and make random postings when ur sleeping?

There is only one big interrogation mark left re. the upcoming season, and that is:

"Will Stoner dominate as it seems obvious and inevitable, or will he get overly irritated and do something silly when slow CRT riders will spoil his lines in the last minutes of QP?"

Who knows. CRT could turn out to be the ultimate anti-Stoner weapon. Conspiracy theories, anybody?
<

Casey will be fine with the crt but I do not think it will be anywhere close to a run-a-way...

Which part do you not agree with. Was it the huge HP advantage, the spec ecu, the Dunlop tires, or the minor league riders

Nah, Stoner says that he was doing various stints on specific sets of tyres, each of which would up with roughly race distance, so at the end of day III he had some unused tyres left and decided to go for it.

I was there yesterday for the afternoon so I got to see and hear most of the bikes. It should be noted that the wind died down a fair bit in the last hour, and the temp didn't drop much, so it wound up being arguably the best time to get in a few quickies.

Couple of other observations - Dani was out there just about all afternoon, he worked his guts out. But as the tyres fell off TC seemed to kick in more and more to compensate, and by the end of his long stint his bike sounded absolutely hideous through Crivillé and turn 12. Says a lot about the new rubber I think.

Likewise, Hayden seemed to be using massive amounts of TC in some corners but otherwise had one of the sweetest sounding bikes.

When Stoner finally came out and started belting around the track it was so obviously him and not Dani that my wife's jaw dropped. Up till then it had been “Still Dani?” every time a factory Honda came by, then she just went “That's Stoner, right?”

Lastly, I enjoyed the CRTs. I'm not going to make any predictions, other than it's going to different and fun - two characteristics that some fans think were missing from previous seasons.

How many of you are going to be rooting for Randy de Puniet this season? I know I am.

If the tires really are degrading substantially, then lap times would slow as TC keeps the bike from spinning and sliding, but Lorenzo and Pedrosa were both putting in fast laps even towards the end of their race simulations.

Thanks for the first-hand run-down.

But that's the thing - if the riders are complaining that the tyres are wearing more than last year's, but they are out running race simulations at yesterday's pace, then what are we to believe?

Dennis Noyes has some good thoughts on the weekend: http://bit.ly/GVegRi

I am.

Matter of fact I think De Puniet is a glaring example of what is wrong with GP. If he was on Dani's bike he could even be close to Stoner ........ but no! he's the wrong nationality.

So facts mean nothing in your world.

Here's the "facts" from Denis Noyes:

The best of the rest of the CRT field was Espargaró followed by Came Ioda Racing Project's Danilo Petrucci (runner-up in last year’s FIM Superstock Championship). The rest of the riders on track in Jerez all posted times slower than the very fast Moto2 time of former FIM Superstock runner-up Claudio Corti on his Kalex.

How could Corti on a 120hp Moto2 set faster times than American veteran (and two-time World Superbike Champion) Colin Edwards (BMW-Suter), Michel Pirro (CBR Honda-FTR) and the two Kawasaki-FTRs of Spanish Superstock Champion Ivan Silva and Colombian Yonny Hernandez, moving up from Moto2?

The answer is corner speed. The Kalex, like the rest of the faster Moto2 machines, is a corner speed monster on a track with only one sixth gear straight. Two years ago the Moto2 bikes were unable to get under 1'44. Now Corti has equaled down to the 1/1000th of a second the pole position time of Loris Capirossi on the Ducati 990 Desmosedici in 2003. Wrestling a big(ger) MotoGP CRT with less than perfect electronics just may be harder than pushing a well-sorted little Kalex around the twisty 2.748 mile Spanish track.

And before dismissing the CRTs remember that in 2010 pundits said Moto2s would not even equal World Supersport times, let alone 250cc times. (Wrong twice.)
