I Ride: Many
You don't think in a car you would feel less "intouch with nature" ie. closed in a box and just driving by the scenery that remains outside the car.

Me I'd take a Winnebago with a shed built in the back for the bikes

I dream

I know what you mean but what I found was that on dirt roads on a bike with corrugations, potholes, rocks and bull dust you could not lift your eyes of the road often enough and as a result unless you stopped you missed stuff. The landscape is not constantly variable so in a lot of cases it does not matter. But I did feel like I missed the opportunity to spot wildlife unless it was on the road on many occasions. Talking to other travellers who were in 4wd's they seemed to have more stories of camels, dingo's and emus etc than I did.

Also it would have been great to be sharing the experience with my wife and boys. I'll be nearly 60 before I can enjoy a trip such as that with my boys on bikes.
