<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (frosty58 @ Oct 17 2009, 12:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>impressive HF! you had a great time & memories that few will ever get the chance to have. it's ashame that the money aspect is what ends so many promissing careers in motorsport but it's the same in other non motorspot as well.

Tennis, golf, even team sports like soccer, football, hockey, basketball. You don't have the money, it is hard to reach top levels. Look at the kids on the ManU reserve team. The 14-15 year olds all come from great homes. You don't see 15 years old Joe Blow whose mom snorts blow, from a shit part of London on any clubs junior ranks. The top hockey players didn't just come out of know-where. The top junior teams are filled with talent, but filled with parents that can financially support a major hockey club. To get recognized by scouts, a basketball players has to play amateur club ball outside high school. If Tiger Woods was a black guy growing up in Compton instead of Cypree, California, he'd be doing time, not being the greatest golfer to ever breath on the planet.

Hayden Fan is right! all sports take money in order for a kid to be succesful, but racing takes some serious money like 100's of thousands. Even for your dad to have spent the 80k saved for college says a lot. Im sure the Daly's have spent lots of money on connors career, but when your dad is an ex F1 driver im sure things are ok. Im Hoping that if i ever have kids they take to the stick and ball sports (for my wallets sake). Dont Feel bad Hayden fan at least you had the chance to race and know what its like, not everyone could say that

Actually, Derek is a driving coach and broadcaster now. His F1 exploits were all buy drives. And after leaving F1, he ran in CART and sports cars. I don't think much of Connors career is paid for by Derek. He has his ride in Star Mazda from winning the Skip Barber National Championship last year. And many of the sponsors are from former CART team owner Gerry Forsythe (of Team Players fame).

Keep your kids away from hockey and baseball. Ice time and hitting coaches get pricey. Get him into soccer or at the very least football.

I dont think hitting coaches are in the 100,000$ range unless its Albert Puljos
