From Motogp.com:

Having had a full medical assessment at the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus clinic in his native Barcelona on Tuesday, as a result of his Monday night Qatar test crash, Repsol Hondaís Dani Pedrosa has been diagnosed with a fractured left radius (one of the bones in the forearm) and a severely cut and bruised left knee.

Pedrosa flew back to Spain on Tuesday and went straight to his trusted surgeon Doctor Mirís clinic, where he was also operated on in December having originally injured his left knee last season in Australia. The knee has been further damaged and will require skin graft surgery.

His left arm, meanwhile, requires a supportive screw insertion in order to heal the fractured radius bone more rapidly than if left unsupported.

Pedrosa did not stay at the clinic overnight and will therefore return on Wednesday to go under the surgeonís knife again. It is unclear as yet how this will affect his preseason preparations with just over a month to go before the first race of the year. ---

Yikes! I'm not a fan of Pedrosa, but if he's out that makes this years grid even more pathetic...

I've fractured my right radius in a motorcycle accident. I can tell you, the bone heals fast. The muscles heal VERY slowly. Screws will slow muscle progress, based on what my NYU athletic injury surgeon told me.

yep, agreed. Plus he's one of the guys gauranteed to be up front most weeks, i don't like the guy tbh, but i'd rather him be up there making the championship less of a walk over and filling out the grid, than have a 15 rider grid. (i think thats right, if melandri decides to pull out as well)

if it goes down like that then the FIM cant ratify the series as a world championship.....least i think thats correct?

I believe the big push to get the 1 Kawasucki in there was for that purpose, to follow the rules of having 18 bikes for championship status. However I imagine there is a clause in there about injury or other factors outside their control.

If pedrosa can't ride I imagine they will still run the factory bike with a substitute rider,

Of course the series desperately needs pedrosa, he has actually won races in the current formula.

As a side issue, the honda continues to appear uninspiring, and they still don't seem to be able to develop a bike post rossi and burgess. I am starting to wonder whether anyone in the field can develop a bike other than rossi and capirossi. Maybe stoner can develop a bike for himself if for no other ducati rider, or perhaps he just finds a way to ride around problems.

Somehow it just doesn't seem as fun without him. As much as I dislike the little bugger, I wish him a speedy recovery. Perhaps he can do some character building and soul searching. (but I doubt it)

Its hard to feel sorry for the man though. I can't help but think of all the opportunities heís had to better his standing among his peers and fans alike. But he's managed to talked shit when ever possible. His part in Honda getting rid of Hayden to appease puig after his temper tantrum, then the irony of rumors surfacing that Honda are becoming impatient with Dani. He sits out two test to avoid injury, a bit of prima donaism, then this happens. Karma is a mothafuka!

Anyway, so who will replace him?
