I remember either once reading or hearing that Colin Edwards was supposed to go to Repsol Honda in 2003 as a gift for him winning Honda their WSBK title, but Nicky Hayden was given the seat because Honda America wanted a young, marketable rider in the seat instead...leaving Edwards out in the rain and having to go to Aprilia.

Any truth?

I don't know if it was Repsol Honda he was going to, but Honda definitely promised him an RCV if he won WSBK, and then stitched him up.

To be fair it looks like they made the right decision.

No arguing with that.

But back THEN, Edwards would have proved the better choice, e.g. 2X world SBK champ to 1X domestic champ.

But Edwards did ride an RCV alongside Gibernau in the Movistar team with his usual results. So at least he got one eventually.

But he needed to get out of superbikes asap, i think he would have taken any gp ride he could and i think he did the right thing.

I think Honda were risking losing Hayden to the Yamaha factory team in 2003, and Honda had to come up with a better offer. So Edwards could kiss his factory ride goodbye.

he still rode for movistar with Sete, and they were a good team. At least proved to be better than the factory team the 3 years 03 and 04 and 05 as well
