Weird quali. Pol, really impressive. Marquez, not looking great. Fabio, I suspect, hampered by that banged up ankle.

I honestly think Marc was really more focused on getting the bike setup for the race. He seems to be taking the approach of trying to get the bike on the second row for the most part now without really trying to go for that banzai lap. I think this is because of how the Honda is behaving now and it's not worth risking a major crash to wind up on the 4th row of the grid. I think he'll be around the front tomorrow, just going to be a matter of how hard he has to push.

I don't see MM setting it up for the race in quali.
We will see how he goes however.
I don't see either him or the bike up to full pace yet.
His body still needs work and so does the bike.

The fact that his team mate is on pole shoots down my bit about the bike a bit.
Wouldn't gave picked that, but well done.

Looking forward to the race tomorrow anyway.

He must be bummed. Today he only managed to be 2nd fastest in his family.

I haven’t heard anything about HRC making any new improvements to the bike’s handling, so the obvious conclusion is that Pol has found a way to ride around the bike’s idiosyncrasies. That, or it’s a one-off freak moment like Marquez Jr. handily won a race, but unable to repeat that level of performance.

JPS’ theory may hold water. That and besides, if MM blows away the completion, it wouldn’t be the first time he’s sandbagged. Just a feeling, but I suspect MM’s priority is not so much winning so much as it is beating Fabio.

It is the cooler temperature that is helping POL, flash back to Le Mans. But for sure I'm hoping he does find his way on the Honda.

I'll do you guys one better about Marquez. We know he's incredible when it comes to managing tires during a GP. He knows when it's time to adjust his riding style and lines to adapt to how the tire is wearing. Since qualifying is so short, that kind of tire management doesn't come into play in the same manner it does race day. You're trying to go balls to wall in qualifying, race is about managing what you're doing for a much greater distance.

So the point I'm making is why waste the time worrying about trying to nail pole position right now when you know your tire management is better than anyone else's?

Could Marc possibly be suffering from the ill effects of his 170mph crash, coupled with a visit to the hospital to remove grit from his eye (presumably from his roll through the gravel). Apparently the clinica mobile couldn’t get it out, so he required specialist treatment at the hospital according to Neil Hodgson.
Fabio suffered bruising to his foot from his off on Friday, his words in an interview, not mine, live on bt sports.

Devastating

Or, on the other hand, could Pol be one of the other two riders Aleix mentions

That could be his next press release to help him feel better

Hmm - not happy Jan
