You'd be guessing there would be too many fighting for or defending him if he is chopped at seasons end.
You would hope Mav has considered this also;

With his current results he might not (understandably) feel he is in a position to argue with Yamaha. I guess they're trying to understand his results and see if they can be improved by working differently and to block that or try to block that could put himself on the chopping block.

Every sportsman should consider and probably have a psychologist. There's a reason why most big sports club employ them. An outlet to help with the pressure involved in pro sports is always a good thing. There's been plenty of athletes who have successfully used psychologist to help their careers/performances. Other than the cost, which is next to nothing considering how much these guys earn there is no downside to working with a psych IMO.

Yeah maybe so. It may have been hard to defend his crew chief given it appears some of the responsibility for the poor results has been attributed to him.
Conversely when the results fail to significantly improve there is less to deflect responsibility from Mav's shoulders.

With respect to the services of a psychologist, I don't know if he is seeing one.
Fabio has attributed some of his improvement to seeing one and consequently improving his outlook.
Obviously a psychologist is not a cure all for all mood and attitudinal disorders, but Mav does appear flakier than some others. I am no psychologist however and don't know what can be addressed to help him improve.
