Feeling very Aussie today. So why not celebrate Stoner After almost 12 seasons on control tyres here is a list of riders who have more wins on control tyres than Casey Stoner who recorded 22 from 09-12 Marc Marquez 56 wins 13-20 Jorge Lorenzo 43 wins 09-19 Dani Pedrosa 24 wins 09-18 Those same riders are also the only riders who have more wins than Stoner from 2010-2019 Not bad for a guy who raced 4 years on control tyres and only 3 years of the decade. |

Timely topic since this just was reported today... https://www.crash.net/motogp/feature...d-championship Interesting read on Stoner's thoughts on several subjects. |

The more things change . . . Despite all the positive changes resulting from outside input and lots more funding, Ducati continues to retain the engineer-centric mindset that discounts much intuitive rider input that can't be seen on a computer monitor. How else to explain their inability, after all this time, to make the bike turn. I miss having Lexicon here to offer up his intriguing theories. Whacky as some of them were, they were a great starting point for fascinating discussions of tech stuff.

I always enjoy reading Stoner's comments. I really like him a lot as an individual and he certainly had loads of talent. He said that he thinks all the bikes on the grid this year could win races. I believe him and that he could actually pull it off if he were at the top of his game.

Still my all time favourite rider to watch ride a lap, even ahead of my ultimate bike racing idol Mick Doohan, particularly around PI on that bike that rode itself. I liked Nakomoto’s take, admittedly early on in MM’s triumphant progress, to the effect that while MM had faster reflexes Casey was a genius on a bike. Another quote from Nakomoto pretty much sums Stoner up for me, including his temperament which was not really conducive to winning large multiple numbers of titles a la Rossi and MM; “when he is happy he is so fast”. (EDIT misspelt Shuhei Nakamoto’s name as is my wont). Last edited by michaelm; September 9th, 2020 at 01:20 AM. |
