None at all. It's all about the threshold with removes objectivity from the equation.

For those with a deeper interest in the subject, I would suggest listening to the Joe Rogan podcast with Jeff Novitsky, the man who finally busted Lance Armstrong. He goes into great detail regarding the leaps testing protocols have taken in the last decade. He mentions the level of detection sensitivity being far higher than it used to be, to the point that a positive metabolite detection no longer is an indication of malfeasance on the part of the testee. The threshold has had to be implemented as a standard part of the process as a result.

as to iannone i think the rules are unfair as they dont even know what he took but if he did cheat he should be punished.

Within the initial statement released by the FIM, Iannone’s failed sample included a non-specified substance under Section 1.1.a Exogenous Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS) of the 2019 Prohibited List.

what is a non specified substance. could that be if someone took an over the counter cold medicine that had ephedra in it? you could be ending a guys career lets have some specifics.
I know zero about the science (or politics) of testing.

The Washington Post may have different staff than they did in the Nixon era - but the mission hasn't changed any more than that of the NY Times.

If you sincerely believe they propagate fake news, then you and I should avoid talking politics. I generally do avoid it on this forum. People here who wholeheartedly agree on racing can end up seriously at odds over religion or politics, and it ends up ruining good threads. The present state of politics in the USA (and much of the civilized world) is grotesque. I like that talking racing is such a good distraction from all that.

Peace

Italian media are reporting that the substance is drostanolone (Masteron).

This is an injectable anobolic most often used for cutting weight in bodybuilding (not water cutting, preserving muscle mass whilst dieting).

It has terrible bioavailability and is not (if ever) prepared in oral form.

Basically, there is zero chance of this being accidentally ingested (unless he fell on a syringe, but I've not seen anyone try that excuse yet)

If true, then this is quite incriminating and difficult to defend other than through specimen tampering or lab error.

What are is height and weight?. My impression is that he is large by MotoGP standards. If he didn’t do it out of vanity he probably did it to redress a disadvantage ie to lose weight but not strength to compete better against the jockey sized guys who are now the norm in the sport.

I am no fan of dopers, nor of Iannone for that matter, but I hardly think anabolic steroids give much advantage in general in gp bike racing.

Yeah they will test sample B soon but until then preventive suspension.

Have you guys seen the article that mentions Marc having a go a joint smokers in motogp?

They also do a very random test to random riders every random race, its a very iffy way to test if you ask me.

If they're predictable then the offenders can be prepared. Being always prepared in an upredictable testing environment isn't easy.
