It did seem to me (aside from the brilliant first lap) ,that in Sepang MM was pretty much “cruising” (for him). For me the evidence is lack of the proverbial elbow saves. I can of course only speculate what that is due to. Residual highside effects or the fact that he wasn’t going to reel in Top Gun for the day?

Speculation compounded by my opinion he does not regard MV as any real threat. If it had been Rossi or Fabio in the lead, I’d bet we would have seen more of an effort.

I suspect he considers Fabs an interesting hindrance to ambitions to win every single race in the season. Fabs is talented as hell, but at this stage of the game
and on that bike, he's the new Biaggi.

As to Rossi, if he were to see him seriously in the lead for any length of time he'd be going to get his eyes checked.

I'm not so sure. Like Phillip Island, Marquez didn't have quite the same pace as Maverick. One could say that he had a bit less than at Phillip Island. The key was not to make Maverick get away and unlike in Phillip Island, he couldn't prevent Maverick getting away because he had more traffic. MM loves to win especially if it's a challenge. I doubt that it matters who is providing the challenge at the front. The hunger is there, but I agree it would be sweeter if it were FQ or VR.
