Taking unnecessary risks may be fun, have done it myself in past. Is that what gods do?

The gods display other worldly skill, they toy with physics, gravity is a plaything to them...their opponents are mortals, Marc did all of that today and more.

Best there has ever been, best there ever will be.

Yes, Gods ride conservatively, safely and mitigate risk whenever possible... Gods would never dare put it all on the line for personal pride, to prove a point and to put on a spectacular show to entertain their fans...

No Way, not at the risk of crashing and maybe being injured or even worse losing a qualifying position...

I've been thinking why we have this phenomena, when some racer is winning then there is a numerous group of people who blindly believe their hero is a god. Even when this "hero" has rotten unethical personality like Rossi. The only thing I can think of it must be a part of herd instinct. When there is someone strong then weaker herd members involuntarily side with him/her. Yup, that must be it.

The term 'God' was used as a compliment in one of the comments, just like the words 'legend' 'alien' 'GOAT' and 'hero' get used frequently in discussions... are you seriously going to accuse anyone who uses one of these words with 'herd' mentality behaviour???

So you take risks comparable to what Marc did in that qualifying session? Care to elaborate?

I've got one for ya...

Back in the day my buddy and I would ride our 750 Interceptors 2.5 hrs to track days so we could show our back wheels to the trailer-queen crowd, then, after the 7hr track day ride the 2.5 hrs home. Because we could...

One time it started raining on track about ˝ an hour before the session ended. We swapped out our slicks for roadies and started the long haul home. It quickly devolved into a deluge which left standing water on parts of the highway, often hard to see - let's say enough rain that some cages were pulling over at rest stops.

I guess we were still running on track-day adrenaline and courage because the trip home didn't take any longer despite the conditions. We were both pushing each other and out of control way more often than was sane on public roads. Ok, we had about ˝ of MM's horsepower but we did it for two-and-a-half-fucking-hours on public roads... oh yeah, it was also about 65° Fahrenheit after the rains came... MM's a wimp!!

And: oh - to be young again!!
