Iannone will leave Suzuki

Andrea Iannone has confirmed he will leave the factory Suzuki MotoGP team at the end of this season.

The Italian made the announcement, expected given the growing rumours that Joan Mir is to join the team, on the eve of his home Grand Prix at Mugello.

"I will not remain for sure in Suzuki," Iannone said. "I switch to another bike, factory. But at the moment I do not want to talk about my future because it's a little bit early.

"Two years ago in this race I announced my partnership with Suzuki, but this year it's a little bit different.

"Suzuki talk with me about my future only after the Barcelona test... in any case, now it's sure I will not remain with Suzuki."

Without a podium during a disappointing debut Suzuki season, Iannone has taken two rostrums so far this year and is seventh in the world championship.

"I have a good relationship with everybody in Suzuki. I think last year was a difficult year and so the relationship last year was a little bit difficult. In any case Suzuki tried their best last year and me also, and we will continue like this to the end of the season."

Iannone, a MotoGP race winner with Ducati prior to joining Suzuki alongside Alex Rins, has been linked with a move to Aprilia and ruled out joining a satellite team.

"I donít want a satellite team. I talk with factory [teams]Ö Not only Aprilia, for sure."

Rins has already been re-signed on a new two-year contract.

If Suzuki could get Lorenzo instead of Mir they'd be fools not to try, as Jorge would likely accept chump change.

I don't get why Mir is such a hot item this early, but whatever.

Ianndone had a nice run, career over. This year will be his last opportunity to podium.

I agree. Suzuki are mad not to take Jorge.

Before he moved to Ducati, he was seen as one of the strongest, if not the strongest, rider on the grid.

The fact that his style didn't work with Ducati doesn't mean he's not devastatingly fast when he's comfortable. He's got 5 championships...

Especially because they'd have nothing to lose. Lets be honest, Rins and if they get Mir won't do shit, and for sure not more than Lorenzo would accomplish. And considering Suzuki is a 'selling club', in the unlikely event Mir and Rins become race winners they'd be looking to leave. Suzuki is a stepping-stone, so Lorenzo would be the perfect fit. You get a guy desperate to resurrect his career with something to prove, and a proven winner, all for a discount. Who the hell is negotiating their contracts?

I thought Suzuki were a little bit too quick to get Rins to sign, it didn't seem like the factories were falling over each other to get his signature. I understand the hype around Mir, he was incredible last season but he still hasn't won a moto2 race yet. Suzuki have IMO gamble that both their riders are going to come good rather than take a known quantity like Lorenzo and that just hasn't made a heap of sense to me.

Flawless logic.

Lorenzo would remember that Suzuki bailed him out when he was desperate, and he'd be keen to destroy Yamaha and Ducati. They would build a bike around him.

Iannone talking to factories other than Aprilia?
He has been getting pretty chummy with Marky Marc. So maybe... HRC?

Or surprise return to a Ducati Torpedocedici?

Ducati should sign AI29. He was blistering on the Duke - faster than Dovi, if less consistent.
