I don’t know whether God or gods were involved, but certainly hubris and nemesis really got cracking when your yellow fellow got on a Bridgestone shod Ducati himself.

I've always thought if that didn't happen would he have gone to Ducati?
If he had won in 2010, which was far from certain if he had stayed uninjured, I think he would have retired.

Naaa, that's what Rosberg did, got a lucky win and called it a day. Not in Rossi's dna if you ask me.

I Ride: Your mom on most days.
Have to give it to the fisherman. He waited until he was two times lucky before calling it quits.

First when he had better tyres and second when the god was stuck with a shit bike (on which he finished ahead of everyone else riding it).

Fisherman > Rosberg

Nah, Stoner was a great rider, you don't win 38 races in a 6 year spell just by being lucky.

Not just "wins" but so many where he just waltzed away and by lap 3 would be 8 - 10s seconds away. Very few of Stoner's victories were anything like down to the wire.

synn, you talk so much about fishing but you seem to be in desperate need for a fishing rod. ask daniboy for one, he has plenty.

Like the J-Man, Stoner was a fisher of men, whilst Rossi is a leader of sheep.

Yes, Rosberg was indeed lucky to have the same 60 horsepower advantage over the rest of the field that his team-mate had.

It has always been my view that Rossi intended to retire, had told Yamaha so, then changed his mind. He actually said at one stage I think after the 2008 title that he wanted to beat Stoner two out of three before retiring. I also recently found by accident an old David Emmett piece from immediately after the 9th title win in 2009 which quoted Jarvis both humouring Jorge as the future of the marque and directly saying he didn't think he would be able to talk Valentino into riding past 2010.
