Do you mean the second time he elected not to take both himself and Rossi out?.

I don't recall many close duels when Rossi was on a Ducati and Stoner on a Japanese factory bike. The only time he even got close to Stoner in those Ducati years he was so desperate to prove something he pulled one of the most egregiously stupid moves from a rider of his experience I have ever seen, and that time Stoner had to avoid running over him. As I recall, on that occasion neither Stoner's wife nor any hangers-on who might have been in Stoner's garage post-race told Rossi to fuck off when he turned up there still helmeted with an entourage and camera crew either.

Broke a bone in his hand crashing out (highsided) when on the Yamaha - think it was the last year before Ducati or year after.

From memory - as Rossi crashing in a race was relatively unheard of at the time - may even have been his first ace crash for a few years

I think Rossi moved right across on Stoner on the racing line on the inside edge of the track, nearly forcing him off the track, in the lead up to the Corskcrew, and they jostled all the way up to the Corkscrew with no concession of the racing line from Stoner, hence Rossi's semi-lose resulting in him slewing across the front of Stoner; as you say he was desperate, because he knew Stoner would be over the hills and far away if he came out of the Corkscrew ahead.

Gross hypocrisy recently from Rossi and his fans, if Stoner who had made no riding error himself had not taken rapid evasive action he would have been torpedoed at right angles by a rider who had left the track in a much more high speed and dangerous collision that both the recent incidents involving Rossi and MM in the first instance, then Dovi, Lorenzo and Dani.
In this particular race I think Rossi’s only alternative was to finish 10 seconds behind. In that case it would hardly be remembered the classic race it is today, even if it is a somewhat painful one to rewatch.

The way things eventually played out I’ll gladly accept the loss in 08 vs the humble pie of 2011, which surely puts everything in perspective better than any words or youtube clips ever could.

As an added bonus we get the ‘moaning’ outrage over Marquez. Shoes on the other foot. But but but, he did it 10 times in one race! I keep repreating, because he is the product of an environment if ever there was one.

Double break. Pretty sure it was practice, not the race.

Yeah it was on a cold tyre, nasty crash.
I've always thought if that didn't happen would he have gone to Ducati?
