Then why did he leave at the end of 2016?

Not because Yamaha weren't following his development direction. $15 million per year, and a new challenge would've helped make his mind up.

Umm ...... you are aware that Vinales beat rossi ?

To the point where he is only a few points behind rossi in the standings.
They are now fighting for 3rd and 4th. And given rossis characteristic of folding under pressure towards the end of the season ....... its not looking good for 3rd.

It was the fallout from the Sepang incident in 2015, 2016 was a terrible year for him as the idiot Lin Jarvis basically did everything to keep the t-shirt seller onside at the expense of the faster rider.

IMO Rossi did a Romani Fenati job on Marquez, but didn't get the penalty he should have done. All thanks to the crap that runs MotoGP.
evo9 and Segfault like this.

Maverick on bike development:

"Actually, on the bike we only have to change one item, which is the engine," Viņales said. "I have said many times the chassis is really good and I haven’t lost the front at any track and I am pushing the front a lot all the time. At some tracks I even tried to close the front, because being P11 for me is a disaster so I tried to close the front."
