Basketball was my first love but in the last 20 years or so GP has become my favorite sport. I know me some basketball

I am sure you know more about basketball than I do to an even greater degree than is the case with bike racing. I started following the NBA because I am usually in the US when the finals are on, including during Jordan's titles. I have been following it more avidly in recent years after getting on the GSW bandwagon, although I boarded with Andrew Bogut when it started rolling before the title runs.

[QUOTE=Jumkie;439798]You never seen Tom Brady?

Baseball, most will say goat Babe Ruth. Not me, but like Michael Jordan, Ali, Rossi, the modern perception, especially immortalized in media, wins out. Who can argue against The Sandlot's mythical hero, Thee Babe, the Great Bambino, the Sultan of Swat, the Colossus of Clout, the King of Crash...get the 'picture'? Being a baseball fan, i know its more popular to honor hitters over pitchers, but the goats for me were names like Sandy Koufax, Nolan Ryan, Greg Maddux, but the public insist it must be a hitter to be a goat, my names are Willie Mays, Hank Aaron. But Hollywood wins the battle of hyped popularity, thanks to Neale's glorification biographies masqueraded as MotoGP movies, Rossi's name will be the mythical hero, and his legend will certainly out grow his real accomplishments.

Roberto Clemente was the best all around ball player i have ever seen.

Little known fact, Clemente was a US Marine!

Agree, he could do quite a bit on offense and defense. He was a gold glove winner like 10 consecutive years and a member of the 3000 hit club. I was just talking to Birdy about this, but my best memories with my dad were spent at the ball park. Clemente was among the sacred names, not just because of the numbers, more importantly because he was a humanitarian.

Like many sports, soccer, basketball, hockey, basketball, insert stick ball sport, offensive numbers are used to define greatness. Ozzie Smith was from my time, and he was basically a human cat. Not the Goat of baseball, but definitely the shortstop goat.

If you live in a glass house don't throw rocks.

He was still playing great baseball when he died in that tragic plane crash. I once saw him throw a frozen rope from the right field wall and gun down a runner who had tagged up and was headed to third . I swear I don't think the ball ever got more than 6 feet off the ground, it was a fucking laser. Dude had THE arm.

All Marquez has to do to be considered the GOAT is to keep winning while "laughing boyishly."
