Most underrated rider of the last two decades, IMO. Would've been awesome to see him and CS on the Duke in 07.
Just to add a personal favourite with my total bias as far as underrated goes ........ McCoy.

In Oz terms, what Bayliss has put back into the sport in Australia is (from my immediate memory) unmatched from all of those that we have produced throughout the last 30 or so years.

Others with less of a profile (Broc Parkes for example) give back, but without the profile of Bayliss their 'pull' is limited, but Bayliss is involved from juniors, to the ABSK (or whatever it is now called) and in all forms from Supermoto to dirt track, he is everywhere.

I actually owned his shark helmet. Some people would ask me how I dare wear a helmet with a confederate flag on it. Sometimes they would be very pissed. I'd explain to them how the world isn't flat and that there is a land down under with a flag that looks nothing like the confederate flag.

I really like Gazza. I think he's the most spectacular rider on the throttle, bar none.

However, I think his record when he moved to WSBK on the Ducati was not so impressive - but correct me if I'm wrong.

Have to admit that I have ridden bikes on road with Troy around the Macquarie Pass/Kangaroo Valley/Jamberoo areas on a very small number of occasions (I would occasionally ride with Dale his brother as we shared mutual mates and from time to rime Troy would come along) and will say that he is a decent guy, but prefers the obscurity of not being known.

He did ok(ish) but it was also never the top flight Ducati.

What he did from the Triumph 675 was under-rated in supersports but for me, he simply did not have the public persona so lost a lot of opportunity.

Now runs a race school for kids in particular out in the boonies in Queensland

Seriously JKD, he does a huge amount of good for the sport and will give his time free to many of the events and publicity plus is always one of the guys that will be there late just talking bikes.

Think Rossi without the Uccio.
