I Ride: N/A - Grew up around Ducati's
MotoGP riders that have died

Hi All,

I am designing a tshirt I plan to wear at Phillip Island and need some help as my memory is quite shocking. What are some MotoGP (can be Moto 2/3 too) riders that have passed away? (and saying that I mean either on track or not of natural causes)

I have come up with the below so far

Marco Simoncelli
Nicky Hayden
Luis Salom
Barry Sheene
Angel Nieto
Shoya Tomizawa
Daijiro Kato

Am I missing anyone?

That's a tad err... maudlin.

How far back do you want to go in this "endeavour"?

lucky were all entitled to our opinions and why edit for politeness? You're hardly one to shy away from voicing an opinion

All good I've decided with what I'm going to do so just going with the list I have above

Yes - how could you omit Abe?

Like 'No' says, how far back do you want to go though? One of the greatest premature losses for this sport in my opinion was Saarinen - but given that there are so many other luminaries and ambassadors associated with the sport that are no longer with us, where do you stop? your list would be exhaustive and your T Shirt down to your ankles. In addition to the passing of Surtees I was also very sorry to learn in 2011 that Gary Nixon was no longer with us.

I'd suggest keeping it within the bounds of the recent MotoGP era timeframe - so from 2002...but include Norick please.

Maudlin? (Had to look up) She wants to tribute these fallen riders, nobody is going to go up to her and say, oh dear, cheer up sweetheart, you'll get through this. It's not the equivalent of a person putting a decal on their car, in memory of my grandpa, RIP, etc.

Shauna, I think it's a great idea. Post a pic of it. Preferably with you holding up the middle finger to us old assholes who've given you a hard time around here.

Maybe your list should be of riders who died while actively racing. Not necessarily on the track deaths, but whilst still riding. Because frankly, if you include Nieto, then you gotta go back to 1949. Given the IOM was on the GP calendar, your list will be long. For example, the circuit of Valencia is named after a GP rider, Ricardo Tormo Circuit.

Maybe limit your list to riders since you've been following the sport? In which case Nieto would be off it. I get it's a tribute, but are you looking to honor recent deaths? All riders who have passed? Those who died in tragic circumstances?

You can add Rossi too, I mean, it must feel that painful to some of his followers. Maybe add an * not deceased but my heart is broken just like his leg.

If you live in a glass house don't throw rocks.

I'd like to help but to be honest I won't, there's been far to many deaths down to 2 wheels and I might have been one of them after seeing the street camera replay of my accident in July.
TBO it scares the shit out of me now and I won't ever be getting back on a bike.

What's Sheene doing on a list of riders who died on track and not of natural causes?

I am sure, regardless of which really riders are chosen to grace said garment, it will be a marvel.

A list fo all riders killed in Motorcycle road racing at a high level internationally with a European, Asia and US national level table (not sure if totally up to date as at today however)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rider_...orcycle_racing

In Oz there have been a few sadly as well, particularly sidecars
