I Ride: Yamaha and Ducati
The Desmo-Dovi thread

There you have it finally, in 2017: Andrea Dovizioso and Ducati can win multiple races against Honda and Yamaha. That makes me and many others happy. For Ducati, of course, But also, and in a very special way, for Dovi. Wonder why?

In the exclusive world of the MotoGP riders Dovi has always been seen as a reliable soldier; he's what in an army would be your regular Grunt, as opposed to the elite Special Forces or the Aliens or Whatnot. He's never been a TV star: he's more like a family man. He can ride a MotoGP bike as fast as any rider, but the "elbow down" fashion never got him. He's all substance.

And when you hear him analyzing the race he just won, you wonder. Such a clarity. No deception. Matter of fact. He certainly deserves it, but can this man win the title against the formidable oppistion he's facing? Perhaps, who knows. But he has already won something really important this season, that is the admiration (he already had the respect) of the entire field and of all MotoGP enthusiasts.

So whatever comes, let it come. Go Ducati! Go Dovi!

Some of us knew this for many years J4. I'm glad some of the Italians are finally getting behind this man. He's won 4 races on an inferior machine. Without the clout to influence Dorna to make last minute changes for his benefit, actually quite the contrary.

I was just talking to my buddy Rog, and we were reminiscing how HRC tried to fuck over Dovi; poetic for those of us who remember, that HRC would suffer embarrassment in the UK where Dovi scored his first win for Honda. Had HRC (or any other manufacturer for that matter) treated the Golden Goose like they did Dovi your compatriots and minions the world over would have been mounting an armed offensive. But not much Italian support shown to Dovi when he had to threaten HRC with litigation to simply honor their contract as I recall. No petitions, boycotts, million yellow march, go fund mes. No cancelled press conferences or media gag orders. They treated Dovi like an American in GP, was the thought I've always had: work ethic, underrated, fucked over, without the asshat antics. Anyway, I'm glad you boys are getting on-board now that he is winning races. Nothing fabricates glory hunting fans like winning after all. You're not suddenly rooting for Manchester United are you? Will Italians be turning in their 46 hats, teeshirts, umbrellas, for 04? Haha. I'm just busting your balls J'04.

We'll know the bandwagon is getting nicely laden when the likes of Dick Harris preface a mention of Dovi with "former 125cc World Champion..."

(Fuck, that was *13* years ago)

Dovi is the greatest rider after Stoner.

Ok hes riding the Stoner designed, developed and built Duc.

And he is receiving personal tutillage from Stoner .....

But hes doing pretty good.

Who knows, maybe some day he will be a contender.

J4 has always been a Ducati man, and in the era of the rider who cannot be named I believe there was a significant element among Italian fandom who cleaved to Ducati rather than Valentino.

I had the sound on for once for this race, and Nick Harris grows ever more insufferable.

I thought Valentino rode a pretty fair race actually, but even the Harris narrative seems to be slightly changing. I guess not much complaint can be made about the focus on Rossi given he led much of the race, although Nick/Dick called Dovi as dropping off the pace at one stage iirc.

Valentino now seems to be "the 38 year old Valentino Rossi" and hence a wonder, which has the virtue of being true I guess, rather than the 9 times world champion.

As much as I appreciate Rossi, or Marquez or Vinales, I feel that a MotoGP world title for Ducati and Dovi would be a far more exciting and significant event than an Nth title for Valentino-Yamaha or an Nth title for Honda-Marquez, or even a 1st title for Maverick (who can wait). Your mileage may vary.

Oh well, Jums, if only you thought for a second before hitting the reply button

It's not so difficult to guess that I've been following Dovi since his minibike days on the Adriatic beaches (in which he used to duel against that other kid Simoncelli), then through his well deserved 125 world title and his 250 duels against Pedrosa, Lorenzo and Stoner, and then of course in MotoGP where he beat Rossi in his very first GP. And of course I know how Honda used him and then let him down (but the litigation was a mistake on his part). Anyway... Now that Dovi's dreams are finally coming true, why not dedicate a thread.

Btw, if you give for granted that all Italian lovers of this sport just blindly follow Rossi, that's so terribly wrong...
