No, it was 70 miles away or so, near Pitlochry, good central location for day trips.

Years ago I went rafting on the Trinity river in north Cali. The town we rented the gear from was a whole cottage industry of Bigfoot themed shops. Apparently that was the area where the legend was spawned. I hear Roswell is the same.
Is it like that around LochNess?

Not really - most go there for the scenery and places like Foyers, Dores and Urrquhart Castle. There are tours and boat cruises and in Drumnadrochit you can visit 'Nessieland'. Unlike Roswell, the locals and most visitors know it's complete bullshit.

I went there years ago touring on a bike to see Boleskine House which was the former home of Alistair Crowley and had been bought by Jimmy Page in the seventies. Very creepy place, It was recently gutted by fire.

Glastonbury is far, far worse for exploiting mythology and its associated New Age bunkum.

Whitby in Yorkshire has a gothic festival because that's where Dracula landed in Bram Stoker's original book. There is also a degree of commercialisation in Nottingham around Robin Hood, but not much beyond themed businesses and gift shop paraphernalia.

I have noticed that discovering one of the most supposedly infamous monarchs in English History beneath a council car park is worth a bob or two for the local economy though.

me n the missus go up there regularly, there is a great little guest house we know right on the banks of loch tummel. So peacefull . We were in Alyth just a couple of weeks ago visiting BassPete of here and were wassaping Jumkie at the same time.
I cannot fault your want to return,
The west coast has lots of single track roads if you look for them, we drive them often at a steady 10-15 mph you often get golden eagles about every 75 miles or so. 5 in one day is our record so far.

In Oz, it would be the Bloody Battling Great Barrier Reef (you could also insert Bonza Barrier Reef in there as well)

May just have to trademark 'the Mediocre but once was great Barrier Reef' so that when the Queensland tourism come calling, I can sell the rights for the name to the bastards.

I Ride: Mini rice rocket.
No summer vacay for me but I recently moved to rural/mountain area of San Diego so I get to ride about one hour each way to commute. It's half on freeway and half on pretty mountain roads so it's actually pretty nice. It'll be more fun when I get a new bike too.
