May 22nd 2017 was a day to forget,
First the sad news of Nicky and then the awful event at Manchester.
Thoughts and prayers to all families and friends affected.

The End of an Era

For us Yanks we have lost our champion. Nicky wasn't going to win anymore championships but he was our only gladiator on the world stage. Last of the USA warriors cut from the cloth of Kenny Roberts and Bubba Shobert. Will there ever be another? With the current state of USA road racing the prospects are grim. I can't imagine another USA dirt tracker ever making it onto the Motogp stage in my lifetime.

I was thinking the same thing. I would bet we don't see another Yank in MotoGP in my lifetime..

On another note, the out poring of tributes and heartfelt messages is very cool.. Shows what type of person Nicky was. Damn...

I don't know what to say that hasn't already been said ... today at 6:30am I had just arrived at Queensland Raceway to do Level 2 of the California Superbike School, I was pumped and excited and i hadn't had much sleep when my partner sent me a text msg probably about the time she woke up to go to work that said "Poor Nicky so so sad " ..... with just that my world literally stopped spinning for a minute there.

What a sad sad day, poor Nicky. I pray for his family and loved ones. He was without doubt the nicest and most humble world champion that has ever lived.

Rest in peace champ!! Billy Joel was right, only the good die young ....

This picture is testimony enough to Nicky's magnificent influence upon the racing world, but it's the back story that is in fact--the story, that being, as many of you have expressed, the affect he's had on the countless friendships forged because of a shared admiration for Nicky's way of living beyond simply racing. This picture was sent to me by a friend who works at Indy. She was the bartender we met when many of us members here met for the first time at the track back in 2009. Many of these members are still great friends today! I've kept in contact with her since and we share updates about our families. This is one of many testaments to this man-- the great friendships we've made along the way.

Thank you Nicky. Your legacy lives on with every friend we still enjoy.

It's a shame that I don't think they will leave that up for the 500 on Sunday...but I am keeping my fingers crossed they take a moment to honor him before the start of the 500 as globally, the attention on this race is going to be astounding due to Fernando Alonso. I can think of no better platform than to honor Nicky Hayden even if it's not a motorcycle race.
