Mick Doohan 5 time GP champion seems to have a different opinion when it comes to engine noise and Formula 1 ... i tend to agree with him, sorry. Would you also enjoy a theatre performance with no sound ... and enjoy the show just as much with only the visual stage acting???? The riders, although racing are also putting on a show for the crowd.

I think I'd rather watch electric.

At least it was easy to get good pictures of the Harley's; you could just run along side them.

And it gave you time to go buy another giant can of beer and deep-fried turkey leg before the real racing started up again.
I always like comments like these...highlights who the real racing fans are and who aren't.

The sound makes it visceral for the fans, who after all, have safety barriers between them and the riders at MGP tracks; provides a more intense experience. I would bet that the riders would love riding electric bikes if they performed well. I remember an interview with Pedrosa about 10 years ago where he stated that he asks Honda to make the pipe as quiet as possible. I can't stand it when street riders have INSANELY loud pipes. That said - after all these years - I still get a kick, hearing the engine reverberate back at me when going though a tunnel or overpass; still a big kid at heart. Imagine going to a 4th of July fireworks with no explosions.

Hearing Stoners Ducati at PI was amazing, that engine sounded downright evil and angry compared to the other bikes.

I have actually sent a letter to this effect to MCN magazine in the uk, hopefully it is printed in next weeks edition.

Because people love the glamour of it but the racing is predictable and not exciting as it was. Majority of people have a greater connection to cars hence the popularity, whereas bikes are seen as dangerous so less likely to be watched because they don't ride and can't relate. That's just my opinion of course
