Sepang Test 2017

Fucking Stoner, leading the board under last years top times on revised layout. Dude is a freak. I have no doubt if he got in shape, would be a contender.

That's insane. Considering how little he's ridden, much less on a top end MotoGP bike. Would be great to see him come back for a wildcard or two.

Lorenzo on the other hand, not looking too great at the moment. Of course it's only the first day, but I can't say they won't be disappointed with the current timings.

Folger is really impressive at the mo. I believe I won't be the only one who's thinking Zarco would be posting better times than him. Was hoping Petrucci to be a little higher up on the pecking order with the GP17 as well.

I make no secret that I have doubted Vinales (perhaps questioned is a better word as I have waited to see him on equipment that does not have the benefits of the 2016 Suzuki in terms of engines etc) but I have to admit that I am liking what I see.

Whilst we look at the position of JL we also should consider where MV is in relation to his team mate as well ........ impressive.

Stoner's performance should be surprising to absolutely no one.

As I recall, last year I spent plenty of time telling people that Casey had lost absolutely none of his speed.

In fact, this is just further supporting evidence of my assertion about those who are alien riders, and those who are not (Vinales, Rossi, Lorenzo, etc.).

Speaking of Lorenzo, this bit is from Motorsport.com:

Quote:
New Ducati signing Jorge Lorenzo has expressed his surprise at being so far off the pace on the opening pre-season MotoGP test day at Sepang.

The Spaniard ended up 17th fastest on Monday, a full 1.669s off the best time set by Ducati tester Casey Stoner, who topped the timesheets ahead of Lorenzo’s teammate Andrea Dovizioso.

Aspar Ducati rider Alvaro Bautista made it three Ducatis in the top four, with Lorenzo the slowest representative of the Italian marque with the exception of Avintia’s Loris Baz.

The three-time MotoGP champion admitted he still had work to do modifying his riding style to suit the latest version of the Desmosedici, after enjoying a smooth maiden Ducati outing at Valencia last year.

"In Valencia everything was easier, because I rode more or less the way that I've ridden for the past nine years and the times were there," said Lorenzo.

"Here, however, riding the same way it was much harder to go quick, so I'm understanding that it's a bike that requires a pretty different riding style than what I'm used to.

"I set my time with a used tyre and when it was too hot, so I think I could have improved a few tenths. But there's a long way to go, especially under braking.

"I'm used to braking a lot earlier and I'm losing a lot under braking. This bike is basically ridden the opposite way, so until I learn how to extract the best from the bike it will be hard to be among the quickest."

Asked if he was disappointed by his performance, Lorenzo replied: “Not disappointed, but surprised, because I expected I’d be more or less the same as Valencia, not very far. But I was very, very far.

“What gives me confidence is we made a huge improvement during the day, and also to see three or four Ducatis at the top. This demonstrates the bike has the potential to go very quick, at least for one lap.

"Little by little we are getting closer and tomorrow we'll be closer if the weather allows it."

I Ride: Blackbird, CB500 track bike.
Got to say the MotoGP coverage is shit, far to much time wasted on plonkers in the media centre.

Its day 1 not a lot to show how it will be after the 3rd day, but it will look different.

Predictions! Well I think it'll be a repeat of last year with less winners.
